dbr11k Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 can anyone tell me if this is an LSD just by looking at it? pretty sure its an s series as the carrier has 8 bolt holes. I've done a burnout with this diff and it span one wheel all the way to third.. when jacked up only the wheel that is being spun will turn, the opposite side stays still. Quote
dbr11k Posted April 29, 2012 Author Report Posted April 29, 2012 I know this, but is this an LSD? Can you tell if it is just by looking at it? It doesn't look like any other s series I've seen before.. Quote
dbr11k Posted April 29, 2012 Author Report Posted April 29, 2012 Here is a pic of my open t series.. Quote
parrot Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 There actually was a TRD LSD available for an S series but incredibly rare for all the reasons you can imagine. I have no idea what that is, but doesn't look like a stock S series centre? Could it be one of those tayell automotive thingies? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 top yours, bottom my open s series center. looks the same to me. 1 Quote
BlueKsev Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 "when jacked up only the wheel that is being spun will turn, the opposite side stays still" Not positive this is right, but if the motor was in gear so the tailshaft wouldnt spin, and the other wheel was in the air as well, if it was an open centre it would have had to have been spinning the opposite direction??? Sounds like maybe a stuffed l.s.d. Alos, your 'open' t series doesnt look very open now haha. Quote

You just answered your own question, if one wheel spins its open, well if it WAS an LSD it is a shagged one. blueKsev not necessarily as with an open diff centre if both wheels are off the ground and its in gear with the engine running the so called "drive wheel" can be spinning and the other can stay still or barely turn at all. Sam_Q Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 if only one wheel spins it doesn't mean much, if it's in neatral even a little bit of brake drag will make it spin the tail-shaft instead of the other side. Quote
dbr11k Posted April 30, 2012 Author Report Posted April 30, 2012 Haha thanks guys, either way its getting the mig treatment as well :P Quote
