yeah ghosting is the best way to go set it up once.

reformat and before you know it your back to were you started.

and who was it that mention zone alarm ad a good firewall???

i would be going for M$ stuff before i touched zonealarm.

its like fixing a leak in a boat by takeing bits from other parts of the hull.

then you got one fixed leak and two new ones.

personally i use spybot and avg.

i go to alot of "suspect sites" like torrent and other such sites and don't have much of a problem because i montior the pc all the time with constant netstat/a commands in the command prompt evey now and then.

one thing i find that works better than a firewall is a ip spoofer.

can't hack me if you can't find me.

even if it only slows em down

lol, i think we flatter ourselves by thinking that people are going to try and hack us. but then again i float around in an insecure bubble on the internet saying it'll never happen to me :)

I always have everything backed up....so it doesn't bother me if I have to format....and at the end of the day, it's just a computer and completely replaceable...and quite cheap for slightly older parts from computer fairs etc

OK guys after running a NETSTAT I have noticed I have Kazaa references in there

TCP sr:epmap ssm.kazaa.com:0 LISTENING

TCP sr:microsoft-ds ssm.kazaa.com:0 LISTENING

See the attached file for the complete list of them

Q: - What process is firing these up and how do I remove them ?

netstat.txt

They will be your kazaa file sharing ports wont they?

But I'm not running kazza and it is long gone from my machine - so what is opening the ports ?

No.

I think I know what it might be - "MyPopupKiller" has an option to hide Kazaa ads - so I guess to do that it listens on the kazaa ports - will try and switch that option off and do a restart and see what happens
