Dru-ke20 Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Hi guys, Just wanting some help in picking a engine for my ke20, I'm in nsw and wanting it to be legal. I have no set limit. Ive been told to many different things and just want hear of some conversions that have been done. Thanks Quote
coln72 Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 5k. Cheap and easy. With the advantage that it looks identical to the 3k that is already in there. Add a cam and a decent exhaust and it makes a fun combination. Quote
Dru-ke20 Posted April 14, 2012 Author Report Posted April 14, 2012 Hey col, I have thought about that but I should of said I want a turbo engine. From what I can see the only legal conversion in Vic ,act and nsw is a Ca18det or similar, I'm building it for a bit of fun with my 2 sons. Spoke to a engineer and at one stage he was saying I could put a sr20det but now he is not so sure. Do you know of anyone who has a Ca18det in a Ke and what sort of power they are getting. Thanks Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 Mate there is a members rides section on this forum, have a read through and decide for yourself. 4g63 sr20 ca18 4ag 3sg As for how much power a ca18det in a ke would have, about the same as a ca18det in a silvia i would think........ Dru-ke20 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 Thanks mate, Really would like the sr20 but from what I can see a lot of people have done it, but according to the laws nsw, Vic and act i read as not being legal, engineer says he believes it is possible in act . When you do the sums it comes to a 1.9 lt fi, so I'm curious to know are people getting them on the road standard and than just changing the engine. Ive seen that guy from Melbourne on here that put a Sr20 in one and just wondering if he has had it past. My brother lives in Vic so I could ergo it there if I have too. If anyone can recommend a good engineer in nsw as my one is very vague. Thanks guys Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 The set weight in QLD for a ke20 is 820kg from memory. weight x 2.5 = 2050 cc. ke25 is not so lucky with a set weight of 760kg from memory so it misses the mark. ke20 with 2 litre turbo is a legal conversion in QLD. I have seen plenty done in nsw as well. Quote
Dru-ke20 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 I Really want the sr20 but just heard back from engineer and he said no way. If anyone has done it please tell me how!!!!! I have just finish paint stripping the whole car and now want to get cracking on the engine, but I want what will produce the most power I can legally put in it, don't really have a price limit just want it to have plenty of power! Dru-ke20 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 And I'm planing on rebuild and working the engine I end up going with.... Quote
madKE35coupe Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 The set weight in QLD for a ke20 is 820kg from memory. weight x 2.5 = 2050 cc. ke25 is not so lucky with a set weight of 760kg from memory so it misses the mark. ke20 with 2 litre turbo is a legal conversion in QLD. I have seen plenty done in nsw as well. Then on top of that the fact that it will be turbocharged, which from what I have 'heard' is 1.8 times the factory engine capacity, which makes it over the legal capacity for the weight of the car Quote
Dru-ke20 Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 According to rta web it says weight x 2.5 for forced induction So 760kg x2.5 =1900cc Which means its legal to ca18det. I brought the engine today, Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 760kg, So its a ke25...? Then on top of that the fact that it will be turbocharged, which from what I have 'heard' is 1.8 times the factory engine capacity, which makes it over the legal capacity for the weight of the car Um, no. Non turbo is weight x 3.0. turbo is weight x 2.5. Quote
Dru-ke20 Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Ke20 Rta gave the weight today. Turbo engine. You multiply by 2.5 Naturally aspirated by 3 So 1.9l turbo is 100% legal With all upgrades Quote
BUZ440 Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Just buy a stroker kit for the CA Not that you need to as these motors can take a pounding being an iron block Quote
kickn5k Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 I'd still look at a 4agte. The last one I built for a mate just pumped out 240rwkw with plenty of scope for a fair bit more. I haven't touched cam timing yet and it will cop another 11psi(35 max). Have maxed the 38mm tial external gate at 24psi. How much power do you need in a ke20?? Stu. Quote
Dru-ke20 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 Hey guys, thanks heaps for all your help, As for how much power, I want as much as I can legally get. I know it sounds stupid but now that I'm all grown up and the fact I spent My younger years doing up cars and not being able to afford the best things for my rides, now that I can afford it I don't want regret my choices, U know what mean?
