5ksev Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 hey guys, iv got a 83 ke70 with a manual & 5k conversion.. long story short. I was driving home the other day, and the oil light had come on as i was coming up my street, i got home and checked the level.. was full and rather clean. i started it up again and the light WASNT on.. but after a few minutes it slowly faded on again, and the ( rockers? ) were noticibly louder then normal.. so i turned it off again and checked the level.. was still full. I'm guessing my oil pump has shit its self? if anyone could help me work out the problem that would be great! Quote
philbey Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 Did you check level after it was running? Can be hard getting a reading if it just shut off. Check level again when it's cold and parked on the flat. Quote
5ksev Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 Wether I check it running, after running or before.. It's still full :( Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 change the oil pressure sender dude Quote
5ksev Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 How would the oil pressure sender have anything to do with the rockers getting noisy? Quote
SLW42 Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 The oil pressure sender will cause the oil light to come on when it feels like it, and you will need to adjust the tappets to stop them from being loud and noisey Quote
coln72 Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 Being a 5k, its probably got hydrolic lifters, so no adjusting, but they need oil pressure(?) to operate properly. 1 Quote
5ksev Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 As said above, a 5k has hydraulic lifters and doesn't have adjustable tappers or what ever.. Low oil pressure will cause no oil getting to the top.. ( making it loud ) Quote
SLW42 Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) Ah I read the 5k part wrong and just concentrated on the symptoms..... Hydraulic lifters need to be primed every now and again try tagging the key Afew times before you start it, I have to do it in my falcon Afew times every now and again Edit: low oil pressure will cause no oil getting upto the top of the engine!!! 5ksev Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 I'm pulling the engine out anyway, as I'm going to tidy it up.. whilst its out.. how would i go by replacing the oil pump? iv been to an auto parts store on the gold coast ( global auto spares ) and they have said they can't find an oil pump. so how would ii go by that? dan. philbey Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I'm not sure where you would get a new pump or parts. When you pull it out, you can easily pull the pump apart and check the clearance on the lobes. Your best option will be to grab a couple from wreckers, any K engine pump will do and hopefully you'll find one with better clearances. Quote
5ksev Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Alright well I'll have the engine apart tomorrow, So more then likely all k serries oil pumps would be the same? Quote
rian Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I know you can get new oil pumps through Supercheap Auto for about $170, and you'd be able to get them through Repco and Autobarn as well. Brand: Garmax 3K oil pump: Part #: OPA1011 4K oil pump: Part #: OPA1011 So the at least the 3K and 4K pumps are the same if you can only find a 3k at the wreckers or whatever. Quote
5ksev Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Alright. Knowing my luck they will most likely not be the same. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 oil pressure relief valve on the oil pump maybe stuck open, that will cause low oil pressure. Quote
