jackbyo Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 So I've been reading and reading for a while now. I want to get rid of the emissions crap to clean up the engine bay and make the future carby conversion more straightforward. Honestly I've spent ages trying to wrap my head around how to keep it all there post weber conversion and it's just too complex for me. Too many custom brackets etc for all those solenoids and hoses. So what can I get rid of, and what do I need to keep to not foul my oil really quickly?? My understanding so far is to ditch all the little solenoids and block off hoses with screws etc. I need to keep the charcoal canister to route the crankcase vapours to (is the charcoal canister the black tub looking thing mounted next to the battery?) Sorry if it's all really basic stuff for you guys, but it's my first time working on a carby. Cheers Quote
altezzaclub Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 The manual and the auto have slightly different setups, but here is what I did even before we fitted the SU carbs Everything except the vacuum advance on the dizzy & the charcoal canister was blocked by pushing bits of 4" nail into them. The hoses were all still there and it all looked OK, but nothing worked. When I did the SU conversion I kept the same two circuits, and I've always had the PCV system working. Quote
coln72 Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Ditto. But never had to worry about the charcoal canister being a '75 model. Tossed a lot of pollution gear that came with the 5k. To get through a roady, I ended up super glueing bits of hose to different parts of the motor :rolls: Quote
jackbyo Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Altezza that diagram is great! So the green lines you kept? Thanks a million. Mine's auto (for now) but i'm sure I'll get my head around it. I might ditch all of it and keep little inch long blocked off hoses where I have to. My mechanics a good bloke and told me he'd pass it in any case :) Thanks again, but expect more questions on the topic once I get started! cheers Quote
altezzaclub Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 So the green lines you kept? yep- you can google the names of the components and find out what each does. EGR & BVSV etc. Here's the auto one- Quote
