faction55 Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 hi guys, Just wanting to know if anyone else has had problems with rear wheel bearings on ke55's. Left hand side in particular. My first ke55 hardtop had noisy wheel bearings it has since gone to the scrap yard R.I.P 2nd ke55 hardtop had noisy left hand wheel bearings so I did the right thing and got them both replaced. Noise was gone but this was about 4-5 months ago. Today I have looked and I am again leaking diff oil it would appear from around the same spot, I am guessing through a seal there somewhere? Is there something in particular That could be constantly affecting my wheel bearings? Or anything to look out for when getting them replaced? Tyres are good and wheels are balanced and aligned, Diff is not overly noisy for a 30 year old car, Has had all new steering parts at the end of last year. Any light you can shed on my situation would be much appreciated. Quote
faction55 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Report Posted March 31, 2012 From my understanding they where purchased from CBC Bearings. Can you suggest somewhere else with higher quality? Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 If the oil leaks out past the seal, do the wheel bearings run dry? I assume you fitted a new seal with the last lot of wheel bearings, so maybe the axle is grooved where the seal sits and it can't seal. You might have got it slightly sideways when you put it in, or distorted the seal rim, or a bit of dirt where the seal sits... All you can do is pull the axle out and inspect the seal to find out where the oil is getting out- outside the seal outer or past the seal inner. Quote
19914afc Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Once diff oil gets into the bearing it is recommended to replace the bearing as well as a new seal. Quote
