jara Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 ʞ©$ɟ guys, today at the lights my ke55 just didnt have enough power and stalled. it's an auto, never had any problems with this before and suddenly it's just turning off when my foot isnt on the throttle. anything i should check or do? i really need this cr for work? or anyone around the northern suburbs of brisbane able to have a look for me? cheers Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Start with points gap and then timing, so you know the ignition is firing it at the right time. As the points wear the ignition gets retarded and the idle speed drops. Then check carb- Idle jet is most likely culprit. Try increasing the idle speed on the idle screw, and adjust the mixture jet to see if it makes a difference. If you can't get the mixture screw to do anything, its likely the idle jet is blocked. ke20rolla Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) Some of the K motor carbies have an anti dieseling solenoid on them, and if the wire has become diconnected it will continually die and won't idle. I had this problem on my Ke55 and connected the wire again and she's good as gold. Edited March 24, 2012 by ke20rolla Quote
jara Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 Thanks guys, I get so many problems with this car. I'll give a look at those things tomorrow, i found someone on here had a really similar problem and i think it turned out to be the alternator. i've got medicine_man coming over tomorrow to install central locking and an alarm, i'm sure we'll figure it out thank again Quote
kickn5k Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 i've got medicine_man coming over tomorrow to install central locking and an alarm, i'm sure we'll figure it out Justin is a genius, if it's electrical he'll figure it out. Stu. Quote
jara Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) yeh, he adjusted the idle and mixture i think and it was good for a day, but it's stalling again when it starts idling, keeping the choke on helps. but it' really freaking me out. I'll give someone a six pack and fuel money if they can come check it out for me. i only have 2 weeks until i start work. also, really embarrassing question, but i just have no experience. Is there meant to me oil under the oil cap? the dip-stick says full but under the cap i can jsut see engine parts..... Edited March 26, 2012 by jara Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 You will only see oil under there when the motor is running and it splashes about a little. The oil is held in the sump at the bottom and pumped around as needed, and it drains back immediately. When its warmed up, what does the idle speed sound like?? Very slow or OK or too revvy?? You could wind the idle speed up if it is very slow when warm, BUT if it is only stalling at cold it is a choke problem. The choke is meant to hold the throttle open to raise the idle speed as well as block the airflow to make it richer. You might have to investigate the action of the choke carefully. Quote
jara Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 well I'm glad the oil thing isnt a problem. normally the idle sounds ok, maybe a little high if anything. but this morning it might have jsut been really cold, i havent had it for a winter yet. cause i drove it for 45 seconds up the road just then and it's idle held, no stalling. altezzaclub Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) Well, I can't start the KE unless I use the choke, maybe not if its hot and just been running recently, so I just automatically pull on a bit of choke to start. Mine is quite distinct, its easyish to pull halfway out, which increases idle speed, then harder to pull further out as it makes it richer. Full choke for cold start, part choke for warm start- don't worry about it, it sounds normal. Edited March 27, 2012 by altezzaclub Quote
jara Posted March 27, 2012 Author Report Posted March 27, 2012 well it never used to have any of these problems, then all of a sudden, bam, starting problems, idle problems. over time gradually i understand, but so sudden? all is good though, Teddy is conveniently 5 minutes away and is going to have a look for me. and altezza, you should be an admin or mod or something, cause i from everything i've ever posted on here, you've always been first on it, with tonnes of detail. You're a good bloke. cheers Quote
Jackson Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 x24298534958 for Altezza being a top bloke. You said its an auto so just check the transmission fluid a mates auto kept stalling because it had none, though it was rough changing gears too. Quote
jara Posted April 2, 2012 Author Report Posted April 2, 2012 It's auto fluid is fine, sometimes it starts up first go like it used to, sometimes it needs a little bit though. not driving it much cause i'm too scared about it dying. Teddy said he'd give it a look, but he's busy. Anyone else know someone on the northside that could give a hand? I know point checking and timing is basic stuff, but i'd still refer to see it in person first Quote
