SternBlend Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) This is what she looked like to begin with. The easy bit first pulling the old girl apart. Wish it luck. This is my first rebuild so any help along the way would be appreciated. Edited April 5, 2012 by SternBlend Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Plans for it?? Rust doesn't look too bad, so a full strip & respray will make it better than new. Quote
SternBlend Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) The only rust is in the surface rust in the rear and she is very straight except drivers doors where someone has been bumping the door with their hip when it hasn't closed properly. Dash has a crack and carpet on drivers side is torn and carbi blocked that's it. So many ideas, it really depends on what colour of the interior I put in. Don't want to keep light blue. Found dash with no crack yesterday (brown), which wouldn't be my first choice of colour either, I'm sure working out what colours to use is the hardest part :laff: . Also picked up factory flat front guards that must have been left in the box all their lives. Box must have got damp and now they have surface rust but will clean up beautifully. Also Splitter and a bonnet with minor little dents all for $120 bargain. So now have all my panels I want, must start the sanding, not my favourite part. To begin with I'm just going to re con the 4-k (not that it really needs it, motor runs well) but I need to find a carbi currently has carbi from 76 ke-55 but it's a bit blocked. Not sure if there's much difference's other then anti pollution but would like one from a ke-70. Once body work done and engines in I will look into getting a 4-age 16 valve red top I think their called. I know there's a lot out there with the same engines but in a light car I think it would be plenty of fun. Always wanted to paint my car lime green with black interior and black flares but it might just end up been a dark glossy blue. just not sure :bash: Edited March 30, 2012 by SternBlend Quote

B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 My old one was green with a black interior. I miss that car :( Quote
SternBlend Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 Skills are a bit above basic but I'm hoping my desire to see the old girl shine again will get me to the finish line. I have helped numerous friends rebuild cars and had plans to rebuild my ke-70 for sometime but I want to do it by myself as much as I can. To prove to myself that I can do it and to stick it up the doubters. My brother is a spray painter so once I do all the prep work I'll roll it into his booth, probably get him to paint her, would like her to be done properly. Still not real sure would like to learn. Partner is the artistic 1 in this relationship so she will be doing the door skins black and grey with a little green beading (as seen in pic below). May very slightly but I don't want to make it too difficult for her because she will hand stitch it all. Was going to have the grey at the bottom but thought it will get to dirty. Dash, seats, and carpet are all going to be black and I'm going to keep the door rubbers etc. grey, just going to clean up the original pieces. That's the plans as we sit but we will see how much it changes as we go. Quote
SternBlend Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) This is the idea for the paint job. Black flares chrome bumpers round lights. More progress today, dash finally out and new dash preped ready to go in, bonnet off, door skins removed and cleaned inside. For all of you with a keen eye this is Spencers old girl, very similar to what i want my car to look like. Edited April 5, 2012 by SternBlend Quote

B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Got 'em on eGay but I have seen them in Repco and autoBahn Quote
SternBlend Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) First coat down, cleaned it out with wire brush and then degreaser on greasy spots then wiped down. Finished at 10:30 so had to use my bedside touch lamp :laff: Next for the underbody. I'm just painting to avoid taking of the chrome strip's :laff: The paint is under body sealant (should never rust now) and sound deadner. Edited April 5, 2012 by SternBlend Quote
SternBlend Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) Started painting the under body to protect her from future rust. Edited April 5, 2012 by SternBlend Quote
chrisfindlay Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Instant progress I like it! Good to see you have a plan aswell! Keep it up! Quote
SternBlend Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) Things will move pretty quickly while I prep car for painting. Then things will come to a halt because then money will be needed. Will need to get grill and light set up, chrome bumpers, seats etc. Once painting is done then I will do what I can to re con engine with minimal money. Edited April 10, 2012 by SternBlend Quote
