Jackson Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 G'day again, Just a quicky about alternators, other than the internal to external regulators and that what is the physical difference (size, position) of the alternators? Right now in the zook the denso alternator fan likes mincing radiator hoses (using the van style hose but its still in the way). I've tried making different style brackets but there isn't really much room to move, tried running the smallest belt possible and it's only just of the radiator hose when turned off. Cheers Jackson Quote
Jono.C Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Make a shroud to stop the fan hitting the hose Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) Then your belt wears out from rubbing on the shield.... Just swapping one problem for another. Maybe a rad hose that is bent different? Edited March 23, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
Jono.C Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Depends what you make it out of it. Regardless it'll do a hell of a lot less damage than a fast spinning fan. Quote
Jackson Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 I did mock up a shroud that I stuck on with areldite hoping it would last a little longer then 500 meters, it seemed like the best long term solution. Wasn't running on the belt or anything though? Maybe I should look into getting one welded on properly. Quote
philbey Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 What car are you in? I had this issue with my KE10, the bottom rad hoses are difficult to find (in a hurry), I use a chopped KE20 bottom hose. I had the same issue, the later alternator fan blades nip the hose as the engine rocks. It eventually bit a pinhole in the hose after about 6 months of driving. I reckon I use an 845mm belt, I can't actually get the belt on without taking the waterpump pulley off, that's how short it is. Try that slightly smaller one, you can loosen the water pump pulley right off slip the belt over it and tighten it up to get it on. Next time I pull the Rad out, I'll get the radiator outlet modified and turned 90 degrees and run a different hose. Also, I made a very thin piece of stainless sheet and taped it onto the rad hose so if it touches it doesn't chop into the rubber. Quote
