jonob Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Hi guys, in my ke30 fuse box the 15A fuse labelled "engine" keeps blowing, and my charge light is staying on, is there something related between the two ? and what does the "engine" fuse connect to? cheers all! Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Find a wiring diagram for the KE30 on google images or similar and trace it on there. Does the fuse blow when you turn the ignition on before you start it? or as you start it? or later on when driving? Take the wires off the alternator or take the fan belt off and see if the fuse blows when you run it for a minute.. Strip the alternator & check diodes, windings and brushes, that will be causing it not to charge. I don't know if it is also blowing the fuse, but that 'engine' fuse might be the 'altenator' fuse on my diagram. Quote
jonob Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 seems to blow before the engine starts, just when the key is in on position. will try trace it back cheers Quote
jonob Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 replaced voltage reg and fuse still blowing anyone got any ideas?? Quote
GJM85 Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 replaced voltage reg and fuse still blowing anyone got any ideas?? Put a 30amp fuse in it... Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 You will need a wiring diagram really. Try tracing the wires from the ignition switch down to the engine, they obviously power the fusebox, instruments, alty & coil, and something must be shorting out. Anything that livens on "igntion" and not just "accessories", so indicators would be another one. Just start disconnecting things on that line until it stops blowing a fuse, although I'd strongly suggest you buy a $10 multimeter and just check for ignition going to earth each time.. There are diagrams on the web. Quote
jonob Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 ok so late reply. but after mucking around a bit, i found that if i unplug the voltage reg but keep the alternator all hooked up the fuse wont blow, however as soon as I connect the voltage regulator the fuse blows again! Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Grab a voltage reg from a wrecker and try that. Even if you can take your one apart you might see what is wrong or burnt out. Quote
jonob Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 Grab a voltage reg from a wrecker and try that. Even if you can take your one apart you might see what is wrong or burnt out. This is a new reg i got it last week. Could the wiring i. It be different? Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Could the wiring be different? [/quote Unlikely, it sounds like you had the same problem with the old regulator, is that right?? So neither reg is to blame and the problem lies elsewhere, unless both regs were crook in the same way. Let me make you a wiring diagram... OK, power comes from the battery through the fusible link along the yellow dotted line to the ignition key. You can see that the alty feeds into that line to charge the battery through it. The key works the ACC at the top, then the IGN position next down. That sends the power along the blue line to the 10Amp engine fuse. From there it goes down the black-spotted green line to the ignition light, and then to the alty fuse and the alternator. If the alty is working fine current flows & the light glows red. It also powers the fuel cutoff solenoid on the carb. I don't think you have one... Then it continues along the top of the diagram to power the dash instruments like the oil pressure circuit, handbrake light, etc, & powers the wipers & indicators. Eventually it turns on everything that works when the key is on! So, what else is killed dead when you disconnect the voltage reg?? Do all these other circuits still work, or is the problem in one of those and killing the reg takes the problem circuit out too?? Somewhere you have a problem in that circuit, something is dumping the electricity straight out to earth and blowing the fuse. You'll have to put a multimeter over the wiring to see which part of it has a path to earth. If you blow this image up you might be able to read the colours of the wires, but it ws a pretty bad scan to start with. Also, its for a KE70 so it has a built-in regulator in the alty, but it gives you an idea of what happens. :: SIGH :: can't get given beers over the internet Edited March 30, 2012 by altezzaclub 1 Quote
jonob Posted April 1, 2012 Author Report Posted April 1, 2012 thanks altezza club, i will have a probe around, it has the same prob as before i replaced the reg, and when the fuse blows everything on the ACC circuit and ON circuit still seem to run, jus the charge light stays on and the alt wont charge Quote
Alexrx7 Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I had this same problem and it turned out to be a loose wire every now and then touching the positive terminal on top of the alternator and shorting out. check around that area would be my guess Quote
sharpshane Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 I had the same problem, my alt wires were mixed up Quote
Side fed 13b ke70 Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 U have a short somewhere never I repeat never put a bigger fuse. In unless u won't your car to burn Quote
