coln72 Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 i dunno if fuel is edit: the oil pressure idea is nifty, but you would need to hook it up so that it activated on "start" on the key. so it went when you pressed start, kept going when you had oil pressure, but turned off with no oil pressure or no start. Had an overide so I could "prime" the system. Hit the button, listen for the pump to load up, hit the starter button and off it went. Also, my motor used to get pressure quickly, so I wasnt winding it on the starter for ever. Only did it as it was "advised" by CAMS at the time for engines running electric pumps to have a system to shut off the pump in the event of a big accident knocking me out.... Think on method that was suggested was to use some sort of switch from an LPG system, but the details a really fuzzy Quote
parrot Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to rig up a circuit open relay like on mid 80's onwards EFI Toyota's. Plenty of relays at Pinch a part. Quote

Bernadette Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 I added a generic brand (think it is same as facet) electric pump to my ke55, because I had to... Car kept randomly loosing power (spluttering) especially when going around right-hand corners, then one day sitting at lights and car died properly. Couldn't get started so got it towed. Diagnosed as fuel pump, BUT when I took old pump off I noticed it still had suction when manually moving the actuating arm...didn't think much of it, and put in new pump. Car stalled at lights again (same lights, I might add), and again I towed it home. Removed new pump, and after chatting to a mate we figured must be the cam on the engine that hits the pump actuating arm...so I blanked it off and installed an electric. Nice and noisy but no more breaking down at lights! Wired to 'ON' switch on ignition. Rubber mounted on right side of boot behind fuel tank panel. Think the pump was around $90 from Repco. Thought you might find this interesting... Quote
coln72 Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 The one in my '35 was rubber mounted under the boot floor, near where the fuel lines go through the floor. Made it nice and easy to hook up the fuel lines :) This made it reasonably quiet inside the cabin. Did notice the difference in performance with the electric pump fitted. Was running 3K-B carbs on a 5k and it seemed to have more top end with the electric pump. Only reason it was fitted was that a) had access to a pump for right price and b) had a blanking plate sitting around from somewhere waithing to be used. Quote
