SLO-030 Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 What Bellhousing did you use? Was it a factory Toyota part from something else that happens to share the same pattern as the GR engines? Either way, fuggin sick build! Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Yeah those TRD blower kits are the most overpriced heaps of shit. I can't imagine you needing much more power or much different power delivery to what this engine makes anytime soon. If you boosted it, you wouldnt be able to get the grip under it to make it safe. Have you had it on corner scales to assess the balance of it? Looks like the majority of the mass in tucked on or behind the front axle, so despite a few extra pounds, its probably in the right place. Can you elaborate on the extent to which you modded firewalls and the tunnel? Quote

ToySprinta Posted April 2, 2012 Author Report Posted April 2, 2012 I'm using a Celica/Corona 2S bellhousing - all we had to do was weld an extra tab on and helicoil a hole already in the block and she bolted right up :) Hardest part was mounting the starter into the bellhousing, as there's nowhere on the block to mount it Power's great for most things I've ried so far, it still struggles a bit with fourth gear stuff around Eastern Creek, but we've got ITB's and cams on the way to fix that hopefully :) I haven't weighed it, but it sits higher on the springs than it did before. No steampipe manifold, turbo and plumbing helps bring the weight down. No modifications to firewall or tunnel :) It all fits Quote

No modifications to firewall or tunnel :) It all fits Well that's a pretty achieveable conversion aside from the starter issue and the obvious fabrication of mounts, manifolds and wiring it. Did you mention if you were using a Toyota computer or aftermarket? Ill have to re-read. Did you end up cutting the block away to fit a starter in the traditional place in front of the bell housing or did you shave the bell out from the rear and mount it like a fwd starter? Got any more specific pics? What starter did you end up using? I assume with the 2s bellhousing the starter is supposed to be from the engine side and on the passenger side aswell? Id also assume in the fwd camry layout the starter is in the same spot but from the bellhousing side like a 2az, mz etc series camry. On the 2azfe the engine is pretty skinny and I was able to cut the block away enough for a starter without affecting anything. Id assume the v6 is a lot more limited in the places where you can fit the starter from the front, possibly necessitating the rear mount starter? Edited April 4, 2012 by LittleRedSpirit Quote
