I've got a question regarding this;

My muffler is currently blown at the moment (blew a hole through it for unknown reasons *suss look*) - I want to get it replaced with a 2" straight pipe. As these vehicles don't have cats, does it come straight from the stock header? Also will i lose power by not having a muffler on it? Also does anyone know the rough prices for a 2" to be done, just so i can ensure I'm not getting ripped off by Dandy Exhaust, lol,.

I was quoted $158 fitted for just a 2" sports muffler on my KE70 in brisbane. For a whole new 2" system from the stock headers onwards to the back with a sports muffler, i was quoted $300, but that is a real nice job and clean finish. I don't know if that helps, I'm think about buying the just sports mufler and fitting it myself, but i don't have the the knowledge and tools.

Hurricane 4:1 haven't been available for years. The 4:2:1 systems were around until a few years ago.

Although..You might find a set or 2 kicking around some random exhaust shop (if your lucky), but will spend FOREVER trying to find them! I did, and failed.

The only ones still in production (to my knowledge - did my homework as spent the better part of 10grand on a 3k) are supplied by GENIE HEADERS in QLD, under the name "Wildcat" They are a 4:1 extractor, BUT are not are "tuned" length set, as all the pipes are of different lengths. This being the only seemingly available option to me, has sent me in the direction of custom tuned 4:1 extractors for my application!

However, if its a stock application (no internals ie cam, bore, headwork ect) and all looking for is a bit more outta your 4k, then a mild carbie mod ie: downjetted 32/36 weber and a 4:2:1 set of extractors is what your looking for, as the stock cams are very low rev'n (like 4500rpm flat strappin).

If you have however gone REDICULOUSLY overboard / to town on your block like me and wanna rev to 9grand all day every day then 4:1 are the business, but as I mentioned tuned length is the only way to go!!!

Suggestion: Call head office of GENIE in QLD, and have a talk. The main guy there (who's name eludes me sorry) offered to make me customer tuned length 4:1 for $600!

Almost every other person I've spoken to has quoted around $1500+.

But yea... Hope this is of help!

ROCK ON & ROLLA FOREVER!!!

No, the only thing you'll lose is your hearing and a lot of money from defects.

Yup...I see em on the hurricane site but I see no way to order any from way over here.

I do have a good muffler shop over here though...when I split my last header into two 2:1's they fit me a dual exhaust system(two 1.5 inch pipes into two standard mufflers forward of the diff with the tips peeking out on both sides next to the leaf brackets (and tucked it in there quite nicely) for about $150. I see a lot of you have your KE's lowered so that might be a little tight under there....around here, I found that a lowered car, while it looks good and would handle better on smooth roads is impractical for the condition of a lot of our roads and the number of train crossings. I've watched many a lowrider throwing sparks (and sometimes parts) trying to run with me. :)

...and... have today's hardened valves got rid of the problem of burnt the exhaust valves from not having a resonator under the passenger's seat ?? ..or have youngster's these days never heard of it happening?

That was the theory, it backfired without the resonator and burned exhaust valves, so you fit extractors, 2" to the resonator then whatever to the back. I use inch & 3/4 from the resonator to the back, works OK, but 2" is popular. Probably no-one has done any maths on what is really needed...

$300 on ebay, hurricane headers with a 2" outlet. just look for ke20-ke70

I have these headers but payed far less.

They fit my 4k in my ke16, no mods. just bolt off, weld a flange, bolt on.

Yes, you can see straight through it. It takes the crackle and backfiring out of the system, and then you follow it up at the end of the exhaust with something that you CAN'T see through. I like the tri-chamber design, an oval with the middle empty and each end packed with fibreglass. The sound goes straight into the wall at the rear part and gets absorbed by the glass, while the gases flow across the middle to the exit pipe.

Plenty on the web about muffler design. Don't use a hot-dog as the final muffler, just don't!

Out of interest why is it bad to run a hotdog as a final muffler ????

cheers

Mates corona wagon was extractors, 2.25 whole way through to a glass packed resonator on the end..

Was loud, but not unbearable, didn't really drone but the backfires.. farkkk, was like 10 seconds of keybanger style pops everytime you let off
