TOSCO Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) best tranny? W58? for a 3t? dunno if a w58 will fit, or if u can get the bellhousing to mate... EDIT, wont fit in a te71 tunnel ^ (i assume) Edited January 6, 2006 by TOSCO Quote
Redwarf Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Leave the T50 behind it (I assume it's a t50?) for now. Unless you're pushing big hp, you wont do much to it. The standard ratios suck arse with a standard diff ratio, but different diff ratios and box ratios are easily available. It all comes down to how much you want to spend. R Quote
Toycrash Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 T-50 with close ratio gears is proven to hold 250hv at rally useage. W-series weight way too much :) No need for those, if you arent seeking over 300Nm torque. Ps. Gearbox is not broken, if your synchros are worn out, it just needs maitenance :S Quote
TRD ke70 Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) T-50 box is the way to go, but use one from a sprinter(AE86 twincam) these have needle roller bearins and larger shafts. the early T series from TE27's-TE72's have a smaller sharft sizes and just ball race type bearing.(also smaller). you can buy some good ratio's for T-50's as well as straight cut gearsets. like Toycrash said, there good for 250hp but you do have to maintain them. check out the link: palmside Edited January 6, 2006 by TRD ke70 Quote

I wouldn't use any close ratio g-box at serious racing, where 5th gear is still overdrive. Normally 5th gears can be converted to 1st gear and then yoy have "5th gear" 1:1. Alltho you have stupid H-pattern, where you have to start from stock 5th gear location as it's the new 1st gear. Can be modified to use normal H-pattern, but that is expensive :S I'll stick with my close ratio T-40 :) Edited January 6, 2006 by Toycrash Quote
