clubby2084 Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Hi viewers, I got a question about the headlights on my 82. It started as a random, once in a blue moon thing, but is becoming more frequent. When I turn the high beam on, everything goes dark. No headlights or high beam at all (parkers stay on). If I flick the high beam off, then on again they'll work fine. The last couple of nights I've also noticed the high beam flash on while the stalk is in the low beam position. I'm thinking, replace the indicator/light stalk combo (although it feels great, it's not loose or damaged). Unless someone knows something else might be the problem?. Quote
Addicted Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Try the stalk, Try your earth points for the lights ? not a mechanic but that is where I'd be looking. Stalk can feel great but contacts stuffed. Quote
lachlano2000 Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Bit late on the reply but check your relay as this happened to my mate in his 300zx and he had no lights or indicators. Quote
clubby2084 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Hi Lachlan, I did what you originally suggested and cleaned the contacts and switches. There was about 25 years of dust in there and it was a bit messy. I used a cleaner they use to clean computers with. From what I could see it was compressed air in a can but, it seems to have done the trick. I havn't had any blackouts since. I'll just keep an eye on it for the moment, see how it goes. Thanks for your help Quote
Subaru_kid Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Good to know, similar thing happens with mine all the time, just the lights take about 5 seconds to turn on instead of not working at all :P Edited May 12, 2012 by Subaru_kid Quote
