Falken_KE30 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) hey all new here ive posted a few times here mainly looken for KE30 parts, umm bout a week ago i bought a bright-ish green KE30 corolla 77 model i think. mods so far stand at a modefied airbox..lol thats all. amm searchin for a few parts but thats in a different section of this forum. have a issue with the brakes, mainly front ones, i have to pretty much put foot to floor to stop and even then its slow to slow down. i have bleed the brakes and done it twice to make sure it was done well, after that it slows down a bit better, if i apply it hard the rear wheels lock up (on gravel driveway) but the fronts down!!... now shouldnt the front brakes have majority of the stopping power?... anyone got any sugestions to why they don't work well?, the rotors are grooved, but that shouldnt affect it much as my mums meteor is the same. the pads are fine, any help will be great, Dan "edit" how do i check what the motor is?, guy i bought off said he put in a 4k, but plates say 3k... all i see is 4.3 between plugs 3 and 4 on the head..."edit" oh yeah, here a pic.. its very boring atm!! Edited January 2, 2006 by Falken_KE30 Quote
Teddy Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Master Cylinder sounds like shes rooted. Get that checked out ... recod' or replace it. Make sure the rear wheel cylinders are not leaking any fluid from them, when you peel back the black rubber covers. Also make sure the rear breaks are adjusted properly. As for what motor it has, have a look for the oil filter. To the rear of that, on the actual Block of the motor, there should be the engine number stamped into the block of the motor.. have a look what it says. It may be covered in crap, so be prepaired to clean it off to read it properly ! Welcome anway  Quote
TRD ke70 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 also check the flexi rubber hoses, not only on the outside, i've seen these collapse internally. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 hmmmm, not them, got a feeling its the calipers. rear brakes work well, pulls car up nice on only half pedal, will go hunting at wreckers in a week or so, if it don't fix it, then....well..dunno! Quote
Teddy Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 I'm not sure how the ke30's break are devided... eg. - either Front left and rear right are devided into 1 "section" and Front right and Rear left are devided into the other "Section" or Front's are 1 section, and rears are 1 section.. Is there any obvious break fluid leaking anywhere? Hows the fluid level over a period of 'x' days? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 only had it 5 days, can't drive it with 2 bald tyres, (live out on farm though so do drive it a bit) ummm I'm sure its split front rear, cause one brake resivour i had to top up when doing the front, and the other one when i did rears.. will get new calipers anyway, and if it don't fix it, then maybe its somehting else Quote
Felix Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 ke30's have a habit of seizing the caliper slides. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 yeah, got a set of good gemini calipers, twin pot I'm sure havent looked in a while, might see if i can make up a braket and get them hooked up, if not, off to find a KE55! Quote
Teddy Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 if u need to replace the front calipers, u may as well do the front break lines also :D Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 how do u do that? only know basic stuff, well, have replaced calipers before..but no lines Quote
irokin Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 if u need to replace the front calipers, u may as well do the front break lines also :D do ALL of them at the same time... including the rear flexable line. They generally have a good working life span of ~10 years (for GOOD service) so yours are probably well and truely outside that time frame. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 thanks mate, there is no leaks anywhere, took it for a spin today, heaps of stop starting, hard brake etc, and lose of fluid or any visable leaks, pulls up nicely, but if you push took hard the rear end sorta wants to skip out., its like 70% rear, 30% front as it is now!
