Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 my dad says i only need to sand back the paint with wet and dry just get the gloss out and then go straight on with paint not primer? can i do this or will i have to use primer? Your dad is absolutely correct, provided that your existing paint is not completely shagged. Quote
ke70dave Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 ah wait.. i re read. i sanded back the standard paint, fixed a few dents (With bog), then sprayed down a primer, then colour. you are supposed to put spray putty down on before the primer..but we couldnt be stuffed. Quote
BlueKsev Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Definitely do a primer coat. We did a backyard job on mine, turned out pretty average so a year or so later we had another attempt, without a primer because it was just going over the top and it was m.int! Perfect gloss over the whole car using acrylic but after a few days curing the top coat soaked down into our older paint and it now has little rough patches all over the car.......... attempt no. 3 will be done sometime but i don't want touch the paint for another year or two i hate it. That was using acrylic too. A lot easier to work with, and you can sand it back and polish it up a lot easier, but for the long term you can't beat two pac especially if you have access to a spray booth Quote
84Co-Rolla Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 yeh i just did primer layer anyway just incase its spotty Quote
