Fayt Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Hi guys, Since there are lots of oil filters out there, what brand/type of oil filter do you use for your 5k engines? I use Valvoline V011's, does anyone use anything different? Are some better than others, or are they all pretty much the same thing? Quote
kangaroosa Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 (edited) I just use whatever my spare parts bloke has on the shelf. Its normally blue. I have used Ryco in the past. I'm not that fussed to be honest. Just had a quick look. I currently have and AC Delco filter. Edited January 1, 2006 by kangaroosa Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 I use Ryco, and will not use anything else. Cooper ones are shit, I have tried some others, and they were all crap. Ryco all the way  Quote
Rolla Boy Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 I will only use Genuine Toyota filters... Most of the other brands have seals that aren't of the greatest design and leak... See them every day at work... Quote
Redwarf Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 Ryco Z9 on the Dwarf, and whatever Wayne put on the new one. Valvoline filters aren't the best quality, and tend to leak. Quote
love ke70 Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 how much does a genuine oil filter cost? and on engines as old as most of ours how much of a difference would it really make? Quote
Rolla Boy Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 Genuine filters range from around $15 to $50... Quote
love ke70 Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 sheeze I'm stickin with my ryco ones.....its a "genuine replacement" Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 I have used Ryco on all my cars since getting my license 10 years ago, and on my KE35 for the last 9 years, and never ever ever once had an issue EVER. Can't argue with odds like that  Quote
Fayt Posted January 1, 2006 Author Report Posted January 1, 2006 looks like ryco is da way 2go, but i must admit my valvilines have never given any trouble,.... yet... Quote
love ke70 Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 and theyre only meant to be used for 5000 k's so i really don't think any are gonna give hassles in that space of time, i run mine for 50,000 and don't get any dramas  Quote
Teddy Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 Put it this way. Toyota invested X amount of bazillions of hours and $$ to make up any motor. Then, all the parts that go along with it have been under so many tests, to make sure they live up to the genuine product. Or, you can put it this way. Get a new 4x4 hilux, thats been under the same conditions, then go down to frkin TJM, and put a TJM suspension kit in it, and expect the suspension upgrade in them, to be Better than genuine ones.. Ill Stay genuine, Jap parts on Jap motor. Not China parts on Jap motor. Quote
