FOOMAN Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Has anyone else experienced their KE30 leaking fuel out the cap under cornering and stuff? I'm going with my seal is buggered so I've got a new one coming from ebay. Just wondering what anyone else has done to fix it. Also, does anyone know how the sun visors attach up, like with bolts or clips or whatever. THIS ONE gives me no hints. Cheers Edited January 28, 2012 by FOOMAN Quote
coln72 Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 KE30 leaking fuel, almost a standard feature isnt it :hmm: Remember talking to a guy who said that you could bend the tabs on the cap to squeeze the seal tighter. This was on a locking cap by the way. Quote
Oh-KE Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Hey mate with the visors its just self tapping screws into the gutters of your roof, two holes on each side. Can get pics if you need. As for the fuel cap I put a ring of gasket paper behind the rubber to tighten it up. Still can smell fuel at times especially when the tank is full but i don't know what it is.. Quote
blktoy35 Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 i always keep my fuel around half way otherwise any fuller, fuel comes out during hard cornering in my ke35, quite common... Quote
5k_ke20 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 The visor just clips onto the gutters and has 2 grub bolt type things on each side. I was so sceptical of mine on its maiden voyage but it held on the whole time I owned it. Quote
FOOMAN Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Cheers people, I might try bend the tabs on mine as it's a locking one too. Atleast until my new one arrives. At the moment it's so bad my whole rear panel is covered in fuel :( Been running 1/4 tank constantly trying to minimize it. OH-KE, pictures would be greatly appreciated :) I've always loved the look of the sun visors on the ke's. And I reckon this one will match my rims perfectly. Quote

I'd say its the rubber gasket on the cap, just needs to be tightened some how. As for the smell, have you tried tightening the hose clamps on the filler pipe ? Have a look at the hoses on top of the tank as well. One of them is the vapour hose that goes to the charcoal box. Where the hoses are is a lock ring, the gasket on it could have perished and/or the hoses. Quote

If said vapour hose has been removed along with the charcoal box, that would most likely contribute to the smell too wouldn't it? Quote
rolla van man Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I just drilled a 3-3.5 mm hole in the gutter so the 4 or so mm screw had something to grab onto, depending in the visor it should need 2-3 screws each side and be right as rain mate :) Quote
FOOMAN Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 Yeah I ended up doing the same thing, 3 holes each side. Not happy about how I can see the screw poking out though. Quote
BUZ440 Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 I got a rubber strip from clark rubber that had one sided tape on one side cut it into sectios and stuck it around the filler so when it clamps is sealed Quote
FOOMAN Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 That's pretty smart. If my new egay cap doesn't work I'll do that. Quote
BUZ440 Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 That's pretty smart. If my new egay cap doesn't work I'll do that. It only cost like 1.50 for 300mm x 30mm Make sure when you cut the sections make sure the are close and almost overlap Quote
