Dan Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Hehe. Just recently my father acquired a 1975 Mercedes for me to do up a lil bit. At the moment, it is a unlicenced car, but in reasonably good original condition, a good base for a bit of a project. It didn't cost anything, we were given it, so my oppurtunities are endless! It currently has a twincarb six cylinder in it, i havent got the chance to even start it yet though I would prefer it to vanish, if you know what I am suggesting. This is what I reckon would look awesome; matt black with whitewalls, in the weeds. Dark dark tint but I'm not sure what should drive it. This will be done, its not a 'i might do this' thread, it will get done but I'd like to hear peoples opinions before I set out to work on it... Just keep in mind it has to go over the pits... no outrageously stupid ideas, and yes, i will lower it AFTER it goes over to avoid issues with the RTA  Quote
Felix Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) 1uzfe (cheap), or 1j/2jz? nissan rb engine? anything other than the merc engine which would probably cost more to rebuild than a later model conversion. saw this a few years back at the fast fours jamboree. had a 13bt: Edited December 30, 2005 by Felix Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) i think mercs are nice cars, but arnt designed to be quick, so id be thinking my 1uz, airbag suspension so you can drop it that low^^^ and yeah just get her dead straight, nothing beats a straight car with good lines, with a top notch v8 under the bonnet  Edited December 30, 2005 by love ke70 Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 bag the f@$k out of it so it lays frame, or put it on juice so it bounces. roll on stockos with hubbies and whitewalls, or gold wire 18s would be pretty pimp, chrome 20s would look awesome. do a beige leather or velour interior. big stereo, tints. pimp some hoes, flick some switches, throw some sparks, come home. a job well done Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 like a celsior vip kit, only old skool :D this thing is gonna be hot hope ur pockets are deep  Quote
Dan Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 Hehe... I don't want to be broke for the rest of my life! For the moment, I'd probably just (yes I know, very dodgy) chop the springs, and save for bags; thats the first thing I thought of, and its gotta happen :D I was thinking a more 'budget' engine conversion than a 1UZ-FE, perhaps a RB30 or Ecotec motor, or straight six 4MPI (91+ Falcon ) or perhaps a 302... but then it would be a headf@$k getting it engineered. I'd probably be better off with a cam (good luck, i know) and head work for the original engine.... Stockies are the shit, mainly cos I can't afford anything better :D Its even got the old school Merc hubbies like on the pic; that is essentially the stance I am after! In other words I like Super Jamies idea! Out of interest, what do people think in regards to colour? I don't really want metallic paints; I don't think it suits the car... perhaps a gunmetal grey or black? Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 if you're going to cut, just take the springs out Quote
Dan Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 I thought so as well, since I can pick up a r31 or VL for next to nothing as a donor car; I do know that their heads are different. It wouldnt be a Turbo motor, just NA. Quote
love ke70 Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 me thinks you should go something big and supercharged....fun  Quote
Dan Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 Me thinks a supercharged 302 would be pleasure.... my pocket doesnt though... Quote
love ke70 Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 bollucks to ur pocket DO IT! Quote
SLOTH Snr Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 (edited) Be careful playing with the suspension. There is nothing quite like it around. In Victoria you should not have to much trouble putting a 302 in it. Most HEATHENS put 350 chevs DON'T F@#K WITH A MERC  For a complete on line workshop manual go to. mb.braingears.com Sorry don't know how to create link If it doesn't open properly let me know there is a trick to it Or www.mbcnsw.org.au/forum/ Mercedes equiv to rolla club. (Nowhere near as good) Edited December 31, 2005 by SLOTH Snr Quote
Dan Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 Cheers for that buddy, but I know that our rego authorities here in Perth, WA, are real hard arses. Its an old skool merc, 1975 model, and it hasn't cost me anything (yet) so I'm willing to learn  the hard way! Quote
Felix Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 mate picked up his 1uzfe with auto and wiring loom (no comp) for $900 from an importers. Quote
Dan Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 Hmm that sounds alright. I've heard about 1uz-fe' being a powerful and economical (for a v8) powerplant, and its a v8  < wank factor really :D. I'm going to do some reading about it. However considering that we have a 351 and a gas kit sitting here.... well, yeah. My plans, until we get a more suitable car, is to use this car as a tow car for the speedway car. So when it gos over the pits, it will be just matt black/primer rustfree.. and slowly it will happen! I really want bags.... Jamie, whats the go with this sort of car. I'd have to notch it, wouldn't I? If so, how the f@$k do you notch a sedan? I'll have to read the blokes BMW process, but it seems to be a real headf@$k to do it. I found a picture, but it won't let me upload it. I'll just use photobucket; i promise next post that i'll have it :D Quote
