Alvarado.e09 Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 Hey guys its been a minuet from my last update been having some hard times. So here is the story I modded a 88 MR2 harness for my 86 Front Engine Dash and Rear harness. I mounted the MR2 Cluster Pod and it looks and works alright Ill post a picture of it soon. I really want my dash back but i don't want to spend $300.00 for a harness. Some guy was trying to sell me a modded SR5 Dash harness to fit gts engine harness. My questin is how is that possible and is there any more info on that converson SR5 dash harness with GTS engine harness. I would like to try and do it to save some cash. Or if anybody has GTS Full Harness that your willing to let go for cheap to help a brother out. Quote
Alvarado.e09 Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Alright guys I'm back with some problems. I was Running FWD water Set up but i wanted to go to RWD. Heater Core is Deleted everything is almost original. I replaced my thermostat with a 170 so it will open sooner New Dual Core Radiator with 2 Fans. The car is over heating at idle slowly it will stay at temp for about 10 minutes then slowly start to over heat. If i rev the engine to about 4000 for a couple of seconds the temp will start to go back down. I know my Engine came out of an FX16 and I'm still using the water pump out of the FX. The only thing i havent replaced is the water pump. Is the FWD and RWD water Pumps different? I not sure what to do i have tried almost everything I'm loosing motivation it almost makes me wanna sell the car :( I blocked off the 2 lines for the throttle body but it still over heats Please Help. LittleRedSpirit Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 You should always change the waterpump when re-using an old engine. Internally the difference between fwd and rwd waterpumps is that the rwd one is a bit longer with an extra bearing designed to carry the load of the clutch fan. If you put a clutch fan on a fwd pump it will definately fail at some point. In your application Id say that you should start with the basics. Look at toyodiy and make sure your water kit is routed the same way as its supposed to be from factory. Make sure the thermostat is healthy, the hoses are in good condition and not pinched or damaged where the clamps do up. Perhaps flush the block with a cooling system flush, or just disconnect and blast it back and forth with high pressure water to remove any loose contaminants and grime. Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Look at toyodiy and make sure your water kit is routed the same way as its supposed to be from factory. Yes, you might be losing circulation by having a wrong-sized hose or junction somewhere. A small hose has become a bigger one and is stealing the water circulation, (throttle body one) maybe in a loop. or maybe what was a large part of the circulation is now going through a small junction and being strangled. Pull the pump and check it. The fact that it cools down when you rev it suggests the pump is not circulating correctly at low revs. Maybe the vanes are corroded and worn away? Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Thats what I'm thinking too, but ultimately he should just do all the 1% plays and it will add up to a serviceable system. Quote
Alvarado.e09 Posted May 4, 2013 Author Report Posted May 4, 2013 Thanks for all the tips. I was reading something that said if the timing is off the car could overheat. I know my timing is off for sure I also know I have a bad Drizzy and I fried my Ecu by crossing the TVIS and engine temp sensor. so I have some parts I need to pick up from the junk yard. Also just to throw this out there the engine is in idle hunt cuz or the bad Drizzy I think... Also I inspected the Used FWD pump when I installed about 10 months ago. The car has only been driven about 5 times sense then. Everything was working with my last set up. I'm pretty sure everything is almost to spec... I deleted the heater core and just used a U shaped hose. I also blocked off my 2 lines for the throttle body but still doesn't work. Thermostat is about 5 days old 170 temp brand new from the auto parts store. I'm going to play around with it today and see what happens. Thanks for the help again guys Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 If the timing is retarded it overheats, so that could be part of the problem. Easy enough to check with a timing light. If you mark the pulley with white correction paint all the way around to 45deg and use a tacho, you can generate a timing curve from idle to 3500rpm, by when it should be at max advance. Quote
Alvarado.e09 Posted May 5, 2013 Author Report Posted May 5, 2013 I flushed the engine and radiator. I noticed the water pump has a small amount of play in it when you move the pulley up and down. I'm going to try and work on it some more today if the weather will let me. Quote
