double_d Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 hi i absolutely new to this scene ive always had bigger cars 6 cyl and v8's but i am looking in the near future for a ke30 or 55 not to sure on all the difference in these models just yet at the moment I'm doing up a HR holden with a big 202 in it ive done the engine and now the body work will start but when its time to tidy up the subframe i wanna pull the engine back out and have a little corolla to drive to work but the corolla will have to be a model i like the look of because i would like to start on that when the hr is finished so can you tell me in those models what i should be looking for will they be hard to find parts for and expensive ? where can i find out all the differences in the models including mechanical and body changes and how interchangeable are parts between models just anything you think i should know before i go buying one o and I'm more looking for the older ones because i love the shape , as probably others do too but i like to be able to work on them and fix it if something goes wrong just like my hr - fuel , air , spark - that sort of thing not interested in throttle positioning sensors , idle air control valves and stuff like that anyway iIM NEW ;-) daniel d Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Ke30 and 55 are basically the same car with different engines. The 30 had a 3k and the 55 a 4k. And some cosmetic stuff. Everything under the bonnet of a corolla pre 1984 is interchangeable pretty much. Easiest car to work on ever and if you want parts they will be on here for sale cheap as. Quote

The KE-30 and 55's are your best bet. Still easy enough to get parts for. And relatively easy to work on. The KE-10 and 20 shape are the easiest to work on but are getting hard to find good quality parts. Stu. Quote
coln72 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I'd try to find a KE35. Two door hardtops look so much better than the four doors. Quote
double_d Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 so in the last 10 minutes looing through google images would i be right in saying that a ke30 = 4 door ke35 = 2 door ke50 = 4 door ke55 = 2 door is that correct so far ? daniel d Quote

The KE-50 looks nothing like a KE-30,35 and 55 it really is the ugly duckling of the rolla family!! KE-55's came in both four and two door. Stu. Quote
double_d Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 ok thanks i think i like the ke30 so far ill be selling my postie bike which i use to get to work instead of driving my hr every day at the moment i drive about 30 k's a day the hr i drive monday and friday costs me about $25 the postie the other three days costs me about $5 but i will need a car when the hr is off the road the postie is sketchy as in the rain lol daniel d Quote
kickn5k Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 ok thanks i think i like the ke30 so far Make sure you put up a rides thread when you get one. Also keep an eye in the classified section on here they tend to pop op reasonably often. BTW welcome to rollaclub!!!! Stu. Quote
Raven Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 KE20 -Two door sedan KE25 - Two door coupe Don't forget those two ;) Quote
Nostalgia Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Also check out the ke-30 2 door sedan, they seem rare as rocking horse poo, but I think they're pretty hot! And apart from maybe a few rarer panels on the outside or inside, they're also pretty much fully interchangeable with say, a 4 door 30 or 55 for most parts! Were you thinking of coupe, sedan, wagon? altezzaclub Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 nah- get a KE70 or a TE70 or an AE71.. they got away from leaf springs by then and because they are newer (up to 1985) there are stil quite a few being sold... No matter what, be prepared to travel as its hard to find any RWD Corollas in a hurry these days, and most that aren't well inland are rusted. Some of the guys on here have been looking for 6months, and I saw a lovely one advertised at a dealer in Queensland for $3500!! 1 Quote
BlueKsev Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 ^ Yeah, i think the ke30s and ke55s are the ugly corolla's! Ke20's are a nice looking corolla. ke25s; even better :) And after that i'd say a flat front ke70, they look nice once you drop it back down to a normal ride height. Slanty fronts, the 1984 model ke70 and ae71 model, hmmmm not as nice. Quote
double_d Posted January 24, 2012 Author Report Posted January 24, 2012 nah i like the ke 30 i like the 2 door sedan but a 4 door sedan will do fine i don't like the coupe id rather a ke 30 then a ke70 just like the classic rounder shape don't really care about leaf or spring rear and prepared to travel and ill pay what i think is a fair price for a fair car I'm not one to buy a shitbox for a penny then have a whinge about what ive got ill pay good money for a good car that will save me a lot of time and work like my hr 99% rust free but i waited and paid a good price for an excellent car thanks for your advice , maybe soon ill be honoured to drive a corolla daniel d Quote
double_d Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 i seen a pic of the flat front ke70 they do look nice aswell lowered nice stance not real sure about its bum though anyway I'm still looking and i still have my hr to do first lol daniel d Quote
