Whatsausername? Posted January 16, 2012 Author Report Posted January 16, 2012 On the prowl for: S13 Crossmember and steering rack S14 Hubs and Brakes/rotors S13 or S14 LCA's And Nah, Chrome looks neat and tidy in my opinion.. And Jake, What Crossmember/Engine mounts did you use?? Quote
19914afc Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 just std 1uz rubber engine mounts on a ke70 crossmember. Too much stuffing around with s13 stuff IMO, but thats up to you, are you doing everything yourself? Quote
Whatsausername? Posted January 16, 2012 Author Report Posted January 16, 2012 I'm doing everything myself, And i'm going S13 gear cause of power steering for one and the big brakes, And S13 gear in KE70's have steering problem apparently.... Challenge accepted! Quote
19914afc Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Not really much of a problem if you are only drifting it. PS isn't really needed all the nissan blokes are just pussy's haha. And why do you need bigger brakes for a drift car? Good luck though, I am just keeping things simple with mine though. All in all though I just hate the thought of nissan parts in my car haha. 1 Quote
Whatsausername? Posted January 16, 2012 Author Report Posted January 16, 2012 Hahaha, Yea i'm going to have a mess of brands in my car, And well I would run an AE86 setup in the front end but no power steering :/ Unless I can somehow use a power steering rack with an AE crossmember, Hmm, Will have to look into that! haha Quote
Whatsausername? Posted January 16, 2012 Author Report Posted January 16, 2012 And power steering is easier for me with a locked diff haha Quote
Grand Master of Awesome Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Have you actually ever drifted with a manual rack? I'd choose a manual rack of P/S any day of the week. JDM ae86's came with a power steering rack which you can buy whole set ups for $400~ from Just JDM Imports in Brisbane. Waste of time though. How does power steering help a locked diff? LOL Quote
19914afc Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Exactly PS is not needed might make a difference when your driving it in the pits for a whole minute but I see no other reason why you would need power steering. But hey its up to you, its your car and goodluck with it. Quote
oldie Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 You could always go electric power steering if you have a better crossmember option and the P/S is all thats holding you back! I don't know the exact details but a guy I know has fitted it to a morris minor with a 4age,if you want details I can try and get them for you but I know that it came out of a fairly modern car. Holden Astra etc. Quote
Whatsausername? Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 I haven't really looked into the AE86 gear, I'm assuming it's 4 stud yes? And power steering helps when driving slowly with a locked diff and when going fast it's just a shitload smoother....But I suppose I could look into/try AE86 gear, and if I like it i'll keep it... And so I can buy a whole AE86 front end *Crossmember/LCA's/Steering rack/ etc etc* for $400??? Quote
19914afc Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 You don't need power steering for a track car and that will be all this car will be. Even though it is only very little stuffing around its too much stuffing around for how often you will be driving it the only time you will need to go slow is driving in the pits and possibly when driving it on an off a trailer. And is also not a necessity for when going fast, have you ever drifted with a ke70 with a standard rack? Have you ever driven a ke70 with a locked diff? Its not that bad I had my diff locked for a bit over 4 months when I had it registered and was no harder to steer than it was with the LSD or even when I first got it with an open center. Quote
Willis Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I prefer driving a manual rack. Not so much for drifting because I don't really do that but just for the direct kind of feel. I kinda feel more in touch with the car. Feels like I'm playing GT5 with a gaming wheel when I drive my S13. I would be sticking to 86 gear for geometry issues. I've heard of people ending up with some good setups with S13 gear but only heard of a few... Quote
Jono.C Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Nissan gear isn't great in corolla's anyway. Feels unsorted and the geometry is far from nice. Also notice that lloyds isnt just slapped together, he moved the strut tops as far out as they could go. I'd never run p/s. You get no feel. Go do one of those drift training days if you have them there, try both p/s and non p/s and see which feels better before you make a commitment. Quote
