oldie Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Hi there, well I've introduced myself in the general discussion forum and put a couple of posts in there for general interest so from now on I'll start to post most of my stuff here!don't expect it to happen in a hurry but it will happen, sharing my time between a couple of different cars, pics of the ksev soon! GJM85 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Pictures of epic progress speak volumes! Short descriptive paragraphs should complement them. Good luck mate! Quote
oldie Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 So,like I said, camera still stuffed but picked up some replacement front guards and an undamaged lower front valance panel today plus a cheap second hand battery. The original guards are ok I think under the paint but needed some bogging and to me anything more than a skim coat is too much so I've pulled them for replacing. How much difference to gearing does it make to fit a diff from an auto into a manual 4 speed? Can anyone tell me how effective vinyl spray paint is,how long will it last, will it peel etc? Promise I'll get onto the pics, sooner rather than later! Quote
oldie Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 some pics,if anyone recognises the car would you like to tell me!Just replaced the bottom radiator hose so have let it run for a while,so far all seems good. Engine is smooth, starts easily,no smoke, not too bad for a cheap bomb with over 320,000 on the clock. Quote
Spencer[RL] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Nice, how mushhhhh you pick her up for ? Loving the hotwires ! Interior looks grand. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Diff is auto 4.3 and manual 4.1. Harder to find a good amnual diff, they whine after years of thrashing. Â 100kph in 5th is about 3500rm with the auto we use, a tad higher than I'd like, but it is great around town. Dropping from 5th to 4th at 90kph is only a few hundred rpm, so a taller 5th would be another good idea. Quote
GJM85 Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 vinyl paint works great! just don't buy the really cheap stuff. Quote
oldie Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 Its one of those cars that looks better the futher away you get from it,has big paint runs all over it and a lot of overspray.Paid $500,I considered it reasonable for the price after I recently missed out on an auction where a similiar one went for around $1800.It has a welded diff that is shot and missing a brake drum so I have found a complete rear end from an auto but not got the cash yet, hence the question regards the different diff ratios. Will update when I have fitted the new front panels. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Its one of those cars that looks better the futher away you get from it, Â Sounds like most KE70's Pete. Â All good, nice and cheap. You swapping to flat front (you mentioned new panels) or just better ones? Â The only straight panel on my 70 is the scuttle panel. Quote
oldie Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 No mate, not swapping to flat front, just found some better slanty panels than the ones I have, nearly dead straight,so Ive bought the left and right front guards, valance panel and I'm hoping to go back for the bonnet and panel in front of the windscreen as long as know one beats me to them but having 2 project cars on the go means I have to share the budget. oldie Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) So what is a good quality brand for vinyl paint that wont peel off?And can anyone direct me to a link about welding ke70 front wheel arches to the rear guards?Have tried search but guess I'm not using the right terminology. Edited January 12, 2012 by oldie Quote
Spencer[RL] Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I don't think there is a guide on how to weld new archs in but I did it for my ghetto sled and can give you some pointers Quote
oldie Posted January 21, 2012 Author Report Posted January 21, 2012 So I fitted the new front guards and the panel under the front bumper so now the car is black and red.Have not been able to get back to pick up the other panels yet so hope they are still there,no pics because otherwise same as the older pics.Like I said, when you share your budget between 2 cars you just have to wait a bit longer. My other project is a morris minor ute, bought it in a million pieces and am rebuilding it,currently doing the rear suspension and chassis. Can anyone recommend a QUALITY brand of vinyl paint that will not peel off? Jono.C Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 VHT Vynal spray. I used it on mine. The key is prep work, ie sand or at the very least clean everything before you paint it, use wax and grease remover, I used thinners on mine and it still worked a treat. Quote
chrisfindlay Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Looks like a cool little Keto, can't wait to see some crazy progress on her. . Quote
