oldie Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 So,I'm probably one of,if not the oldest member of Rollaclub at mid 50's! Ive had ke70's before but have been doing other things (meaning other cars) but have just returned with the purchase of a ke70 project to keep me going while my other project is slack. Exterior is black, looks like house paint, original color is beige,4 speed, complete but a bit grotty and missing a few little but important pieces that shouldn't be too hard to find,I hope.. Plans revolve around rebuild and restore,a cool looking cruiser rather than a hotty, drifter, race machine, etc,a few upgrades to the standard running gear and body work to start with, maybe a 2T later, yea,I know, old and heavy but so am I, I'm not into 4age+++,hate electronics and computer controlled cars! Anyway,no pics yet as I have not picked it up,hopefully tomorrow but some of you may have seen it on ebay.Well, thats about as far as I'll go for the moment so more news when I have it here.By the way, don't expect to many updates (maybe)! altezzaclub Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Nah- c'mon another decade before you start getting old! i wish I was your age again! Nothing wrong with a good set of carbs- when the north pole inverts and everything electronic stops working we'll still be driving! I've had a play with bits and pieces on ours, although I wish I'd got a square-nose with chrome bumpers really. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/42407-the-girls-ke70/ Quote

When the EMP hits I think it will probably be more than carby vs injection that I'll be worried about but what the hell, life is a question of choices isn't it! I've read your post regards "the girls ke70" a couple of times, youv'e put a lot of effort into sorting it,hope she appreciates it! Quote
snot35 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Welcome! If you ask me, you should still consider the 4AGE and put carbs on it if that's your thing. T motors are getting quite hard to find, whereas there are still a lot of 4AGE parts out there and there probably will be into the near future. They're even getting to the stage of being reasonably cheap. Plus, one of those on a decent set of side drafts just sounds awesome. :) As a fellow '70 owner, I look forward to seeing your progress! 19914afc Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Lots of parts here for 3t Info here One day after I get this 1uz into my T18 done I want to do a bit of work to the old 3t out of it and wack it into a ke70 and hopefully show up some 4AGE's :) Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 A friend with a TA23 has a 3TC with a 650 holley in a blowthru turbo setup making 270wrhp. Even blokes in the states are getting 700+ hp out of the 3T's. Goes to show the T series are still a proven performer. Quote
snot35 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I definitely wasn't saying you can't get parts or that they aren't good performers, but shipping stuff from the states isn't readily available :) Quote
silverra23 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 You can't get parts easily out of the USA? Are you serious? I got heaps of bits for my "R" engine build out of the states, cheaper than I would have if I bought here in Australia, even including the added shipping costs. If you aren't in a hurry there are shipping consolidators who will parcel it up and send it across in a bulk container. I haven't used them but I have heard good things about various ones. Anyways massive digression from the topic, welcome oldie :) Quote
snot35 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 OK people, let's not get hung up on definitions of readily available. I'm talking prolific availability of engines on the second hand market, along with parts and being able to get down to your local wrecker and not having much trouble sourcing parts. Never did I say it was impossible to do things if you're willing to wait! Eesh! Quote
oldie Posted January 9, 2012 Author Report Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Ok,back to the topic at hand... got it home, not as good as I thought but not too bad, drives, doesn't stop, rear axle and brakes screwed, welded diff, missing one wheel brake drum, the handbrake half works, will sort this first then move on- Question about vinyl paint, how good is it really, will it adhere well and not peel off or is it really only a short term thing? Going to throw out the wheels, apparently they are datsun,13 inch, look a bit like old hotwires, about 8 inch wide and tyres are shit. Will consider 14inch steelies maybe but unsure at present. Looks like the paint will be one of the harder issues to sort, who ever did it should be shot but at least its only time more than anything else to get it prepped correctly. At this stage it starts well, idles well, hydraulics are pretty quiet and it does not appear to leak any oil, maybe there is none in it,haven't checked yet.Radiator hose is blown and I need a battery so these will be the next two issues I sort before I get onto the rear axle. If anyone in melbourne has a good free wheeling diff and two good axles they might want to sell give me a yell with a price and I'll see if my budget can carry it at present.. Will continue this in the rides thread now so anyway, thats it for now, pics when I can get new rechargeable batteries for the camera... Edited January 9, 2012 by oldie Quote
