Synchro ʞ©$ɟed? Its a very common thing, especially with 2nd gear. If you have a spare gbox, throw it in. Or just live with it. Just what it sounds like anyway. Quote
kryton brown Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Older cars can get a build up of waxy deposits on the gears and synchros, stopping them from moving freely and causing clashing. Try putting some Redline MTL G/Box oil in for a while, it is good at disolving those waxes, if it's not completely shagged you should see a reduction in clashing in a couple of weeks. I put some in an AE95 i used to have and it worked beautifully. After i put the Redline oil in, the more i drove it the better it got. OR, it could just be shagged.. If you can't afford aother box or a rebuild then it's worth a shot, it's expensive oil but cheaper than a new box. (you can buy Redline oil at Burson) Edited January 5, 2012 by kryton brown Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 ..and the revs make a difference, as there will be a speed in each gear where the synchros don't do as much work as at other speeds. Our 5K is well-worn, but drives fine if you don't rush it through the gears and change around 3000rpm. Quote
Trev Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Put a light weight oil in it, you can buy a straight 50 gear oil that will suit it, mine use to only crunch at rpms over 7k so I just learnt to drive it a bit slower. Quote
champage90 Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 bleed the clutch and put light weight gearbox oil in it Quote
