TarmacAttack Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Hey doods, Converting my 4 spees to a 5 speed soon. Is there any changes that ill need to do? EG: starter motor, clutch, flywheel, tailshaft, gearbox mount, reverse/neutral switch, shifter???? Or is it all the same? Cheers Lance Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 All the same. Try and drop the box and tailshaft together so you don't spill gear box oil everywhere. Quote
Jono.C Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I could be wrong, But i was always lead to believe the tailshafts are different between 4 and 5 speeds? Either spline wise or length wise? Glad to be proven wrong though! Quote
towe001 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Whats the car in question ? KE70 or KE3x/55 ? And whats the 5 speed g'box in question ? Is it from a KE70 or from a KE55 ? If the car is a KE3x/55 and the g'box is from a '70 you'll have to move the shifter hole back about 2-3inchs or so. The shifter is about the same closer to the hand brake as well . Does put the shifter in a better spot which is an excellent bonus. If its '70 and the g'box is from a '55, you'll be for a bit of pain cause you'll have to move the shifter hole forwards. No problems if the g'box is from the same model car. The g'box shifter housing can be swapped around between boxes, but only between 5 speed and 5 speed and the same with 4 speeds. Tailshifts are the same. The only time you'll have trouble is with the trimatic auto box, output splines are different. But since your not dealing with that, you'll have no problems with everything else, its all a swap over. Quote
TarmacAttack Posted December 28, 2011 Author Report Posted December 28, 2011 Car is a KE55 and I'm pretty sure the 5 speed is from a 35/55. I still gotta ask he guy who has it. I thought that would of been the case with the 70 stuff. Cheers guys Quote
towe001 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 This is a KE70 g'box The shifter is closer to the output shaft then the '55's 5 speed. Personally my pick out of the '55's and the '70's 5 speeds i'd go for the '70. The g'boxes are the same but the '70's shifter is better positioned. If its the '70s g'box, let us know cause there is a couple of things that need to be done to fit. Piss easy to do. Quote
