Mezz/// Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Hello Guys and Gals :) I have bought and have been building up a ke26 that has a ke30 Diff under the rear for more strength and bigger brakes I am guessing,(they were on the car when I bought it) and I am wondering if it's a know brake upgrade to slide a set of pintara,or skyline r31 axles straight into my ke30 Differential to give me more braking power. The car is 2-3 weeks off getting painted and put on the road, and it has currently: *ke70 front shocks and discs *ke70 brake booster *14 inch old school wheels *currently running hot 4k engine,(well it's worked, but it's only a 4k,so let's call her LUKE WARM ;) ) k motors HAVE THEIR OWN POWER RATING. Powered by DONKEYS all year and by reindeer @ Christmas. SANTA FLEW PAST ME,and still was able to stop better than me lol. the idea is that I want to increase breaking power enough to have 5 people in the wagon and possibly upgrade to a 4age or Rotary engine later in the year, thus adding more weight to the red rocket! So I'm wanting the brakes to be spot on before I even consider Changing from DONKEY POWER to RAW HORSE POWER :)! What will I need??? *The car needs to be safe *will be a road car *and will be painted in RED... Because it's painted in red,..does this mean I need bigger brakes? I have heard RED cars go FASTER? lol jokes!! Apart from my humor,Stopping is serious business and want to be good at it. So any help on this topic of set up if know would be great..or another cost effective although GREAT standard brake upgrade would be appreciated ;) REMEMBER: I already have a ke30 diff in the rear :) Mezz Quote
wagn Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 seeing you already have the ke70 gear that is already an upgrade over the stock ke20 stuff so i would just refresh what you have.get decent fluid, pads, disks, new shoes in the rear etc and have it all adjusted properly Quote

His dad has just put r31 skyline disks and calipers on his. Just needed two brackets laser cut to bolt it all on. If you pm him and ask him very very nicely he may be able to get the two plates cut for you, at a price of course. Stu. Quote
Mezz/// Posted December 27, 2011 Author Report Posted December 27, 2011 Hell yes! thats and awesome response to my message :) i did think it could be done。have to see what it cost i guess。 if ts not much I'm def interested :) thank you heaps for that Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 I would have to question why you would want larger rear brakes than your front? I also question how this will effect your pedal travel and feel, and also your bias, as a skyline uses a larger bore master cylinder. Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 The Nissan man has it! Why bother?? Rear brakes do very little of the braking and you will run into bias problems swapping stuff around. So you will need to be able to limit the rear braking power to stop it locking the tail up. It may be fine until the day you really hit the brakes hard and find the rears lock first into an instant spin. Disc are only for changing pads faster in a race, and working against that is that they bring along a shoddy handbrake system. Rear drums will do quite adequately, well as far as stopping 30ton trucks go anyway. They used to race cars with rear drums at Le Mans, and the big thing was to have finned rear drums to dissapate heat in racing conditions. So I'm pretty sure you could use the drums you have and get better performance from the fronts. We rallied for years with rear drums and an adjustable limiter that allowed us to dial-in rear lockup in tight stages. Quote
Mezz/// Posted December 27, 2011 Author Report Posted December 27, 2011 I was also thinking of going for more breaking power up front too guys.. Wow you guys smashed me?? Lol point taken though.. Ok so less work to do then.. Great news. Thanks for taking the time guys :) Mezz Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Well, its no good rushing off spending money on something that other guys have found doesn't give a good bang for bucks.. Combined with the fact that between 60 and 90 percent of a vehicle's stopping power comes from the front wheels, from 30seconds on google... http://www.edmunds.com/car-technology/brakes-drum-vs-disc.html Anyway, the REAL reason for using an R31 rear end is to get a limited slip diff! Once you start doing mods on a rolla the one thing that holds you back is the lack of an LSD. The problem of using something bigger is having more weight banging around in the back and jumping off the road, so you need to keep unsprung weight as low as you can. If you're keen enough you can shorten a Skyline diff and re-do the mounts and use it with an LSD. Quote
Mezz/// Posted December 27, 2011 Author Report Posted December 27, 2011 Ok thanks Altezza. I understand what your saying. the LSD is a great thing to have hey. I think I'll get her on the road,..find a diff to shorten and go from there! ;) thanks Quote
