rjenman Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) Gday Have recently initiated a move to Thailand (am there now) I have found a really rotten but straight KE26 that runs and has rego. It's fuel is coming from a bottle in the engine bay so i'm guessing a rusted out petrol tank. the engine bay is pretty rotten and its surprising that she's alive (although I'm aware corollas do that by nature). the paint is truly f*cked but the panels seem very straight. glass perfect, interior not bad. missing some exterior trim and indicators missing. I've read a little and found they sell overrated for no more than KE20's, but I've seen F.A. around so does anyone know whether they are actually worth a lot? Either in Australia or in general... Its in a wreckers in Chiangmai and the guy quotede the equivalent of a grand, but problem is I can get a KE70 for that much with rims that would be EXTREMELY expensive in Australia with a freakishly perfect stock driveline and front and rear spoiler and nice black paint, rego, for 1 or 2 grand.... so whether its cheap by Australian standards is irrelevant... as its probably more comparable to paying 4 or 5 grand if I were in Aus.. Below are pics of prospective KE26 and KE70. I love the ke70 but.. i just sold one in AUS... wanted something different.. but its... just.. so wicked cheers Rodney Edited December 8, 2011 by rjenman Quote
Teddy Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Thats awesome to see a glimpse into another part of the world : ) Where abouts are you Thailand ? Cooool : ) Quote
rjenman Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 Chiang mai. Yeah it gets better . Thais really keep their old jap cars in FREAKISHLY good nick. Completely different attitude toward technology here. I like it A LOT I'm thinking of going the KE70 on second thoughts due to awesome cosmetics and freakish A1 mechanical, altho its stock 4K. It's actually weird to find the Australian style KE70 here, most are weird DX... seen some 2 doors.. the guy whos selling it wants the money to buy a 2 door ke70 with a 4age already in it The guy with the KE26 seems like a bit of a dickhead, i have a 1968 raleigh asian-spec bicycle with drum brakes front and rear and 3 speed and he gave it a once over and pronounced it a "bomb" whilst his workers had spent like 15 minutes trying to start the KE26... altezzaclub Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Get the KE70, for exactly the reasons you said! You will at least be mobile & you can spend a year evaluating what's around and what is worth restoring. You will find some great and unusual Jap models that never made it to Aussie. Quote
7shades Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Hmmmm... *Gets quotes for 20' ISO BKK-DRW* Quote
rjenman Posted December 19, 2011 Author Report Posted December 19, 2011 turns out the KE70's springs are chopped. And that the Authorities would care. Dunno how much, or whether they'd kill me in prison or give me a high five. Just thinking now I realised I could probably swing them a 1000baht note if they pulled me over and asked about it lol Quote
rjenman Posted December 19, 2011 Author Report Posted December 19, 2011 And yeah Altezzaclub u might be right, driving round Thailand in a KE70 i own would be pretty awesome, and yeah, u have no idea how overrated the Thais keep their little old cars. I'm noticing a lot of little old european cars too Quote
philbey Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Dude find me a kp30 publica haha! Quote
ke70dave Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 is the dog included in the blue ke70? also is there rear guard damage on the ke70? Quote
rjenman Posted December 25, 2011 Author Report Posted December 25, 2011 Ah pretty sure the ke70 is black as night, and, no, its a pup roam free. Rear guard damage? The guys angle grinded the lips off the wheel arches and bolted flares on. Is that what ur asking? Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I could probably swing them a 1000baht note if they pulled me over Is that the one where you keep it folded up in your licence and hand it over when stopped? ... the cop says "Is this your's Sir?" and you say "No Officer, I think its yours" and he says... "No, its not." and throws it away in the wind.... :laff: So, what else is for sale that's worth buying now?? Quote
Mezz/// Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Ke26 are rare as rocking horse poop. if it's a car that you were looking at selling later,my personal preference would be the ke26. There are plenty of ke70 around??! Not many ke26. I have owned 32 gap cars since I was 17,..I'm in mid 20's now,..and it's all the same.. Buy a car that is overrated,..or do it up overrated,..if it is rare it will fetch more from the right buyer.. I have been offered 8 grand for my stock ke26. *unregistered *rust *cut springs Etc.. It will be worth more than this once it's painted in red this month. I paid a good amount for this car myself,..as they ate truly rare. I'm doing up this corolla because it's a CLASSIC.. Not because I can't afford a more etravagant car• a ke 20 or 26 with origanal fender mirrors=sex on wheels my friend。 we must commute though、so if its a daily and not an investment you want, maybe id say differently 。-mezz Quote
