sounds like a bit of gasket paper is flaping mate doesnt sound like a leak as it wouldnt idol as clean> i think u should rip the gaskets out and just goop it up and try that

take the fan belt off & start it.... just in case its a dry bearing in the alty or water pump.

 

one of the first things i checked.

 

Will the fuel eat away at the gasket goo?

You should be fine with the gasket glue man, i did once use a silicone glue which softened up with the petrol, but i used a different brand with my current carb and its still going fine

^^^this worked, problem solved. I think the issue was because someone butchered up the adaptor plate there was little sealing area because the holes were enlarged a little too much.

I have my 32/36 facing the "wrong way" and no issues and its a on a 4x4 so it gets on some big angles.
