Jordanrolla Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Howdy peeps, 84 ke70 stock'o auto. Carby was on its way out so i bought a secondhand weber kit. Yanked the stock on off, put the new one on with adaptor plate, made some new gaskets for in between the plate/carby, go to crank it over and this happens and it wont stop happening I'm going deaf trying to find out whats happening, ive checked every little hole to find a leak and i can't find shit. The noise is so weird i can't even pin point on where its coming from, i hold my hands on all corners of the carby to see if the noise gets quieter and nothing. Any suggestions? anyone had something like this happen before? carby experts out there? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 What happens if you put an air filter on? Is it just as noisy? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) Is the carbie functioning properly? Taken it for a drive? Edited December 2, 2011 by blzbub666 Quote
GJM85 Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Looks like its on backwards and screaming at you to turn it around~!!! Quote
Jordanrolla Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 yeah took it for a drive, drives fine, wont stop screaming at any rpm GJM85 does it matter what way its facing? Quote
GJM85 Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 yeah took it for a drive, drives fine, wont stop screaming at any rpm GJM85 does it matter what way its facing? I think so. If you look on every other carbed car, including the stock k motor carb, the fuel bowl is at the front. Something to do with G-forces and the way fuel moves away from the jets under acceleration if the carb is on backwards. I know exactly why you put it on that way... the throttle opens anti clock wise and you don't have to make a 180 degree linkage. Quote
Jordanrolla Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 well that and the way it is from stock that the larger throttle is closest to the motor and the manifold has the larger opening in that spot so i figure fit the weber up the same way Quote
Evan G Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 first of all carby is facing the wrong way. tried blocking all the vac lines off? tried spraying brake cleaner around the carby looking for leaks? Quote
BlueKsev Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) did two posts... Edited December 2, 2011 by BlueKsev Quote
BlueKsev Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 No, me and the previous owner of this carb both had it running facing the same way as what it is now. Maybe it is facing a different way to usual, but thats how we ran it . And I pulled the carb off after i drove it home from town the same day i put it up for sale, it should be fine. No problems with it then. what have you done for gaskets around the adapter plate? I'd say it has a leak somewhere where its been bolted up probably just a bit of gasket glue will fix it. And what is it idling at? Also you know the homemade steel bracket that the accelerator cable went through? put that on the front left bolt of the carb (closest to battery), flip the semi circle accelerator bracket up the other way (sorry man i flipped it so it fitted in the box for postage!), and run the cable in from the other side of the motor. Well, thats how i had it anyway but it may work fine like that i guess. And sorry i haven't replied earlier man i'm away on holidays at the moment :) Cheers Ben Quote
BlueKsev Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Oh you said you've put new gaskets in... Have a look down the first throat, on the passenger side and just check its clear when you open the throttle right up ( with it turned off) If a bit of the gasket or anything like that was hanging out on the inside of the carb then it could make it whistle like that Quote
Jordanrolla Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 i have put my finger over every visible hole i can see and nothing. Not to offend anyone here but where is the rule to say which way the carby should be facing? I don't think the way its facing is causing this particular problem. Ben i have made a couple of home made gaskets from gasket paper for the adaptor plate, I will pull it all off again tomorrow and investigate some more. Thanks for all the suggestions guys Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 take the fan belt off & start it.... just in case its a dry bearing in the alty or water pump. Quote
BlueKsev Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Na its fine facing that way. If it was caused by facing that way, then everyones Weber would make a screeching sound when they reversed... An yeah as Altezzaclub said, just check its not coming from somewhere else i think.. Quote
