Dyzza Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) hey well these are the rims that were on the laser i used to fang around in. They are 15 x 6, but have the offset of a wrong wheel drive. The rims sit nicely on the back (could sit 10mm out from the body), but hit the strut on the front (surprise surprise). At the mo' i've got the 15s on the back, with 13" hotwires on the front. I know you can get spacers so you can fit these rims, but i know it chews up some of the thread on your studs ( = weaker ). I was thinking of putting in longer studs to suit, but I think Mr. Policey has spacers in his little black book under the ILLEGAL section. Should i abandon all hope of my beast cruisin round with these rims? Check the foto out so you can see why i like. Cheers, Dyzza Edited December 20, 2005 by Dyzza Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 you can get bolt-on wheel spacers engineered Quote
Dyzza Posted December 20, 2005 Author Report Posted December 20, 2005 yeah? hmm. i just don't want it to be unsafe or anything, 'spose you wouldn't pass an engineers cert if it were. Dyzza Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) I have new long wheel studs, and spacers in the front of my coupe. Whilst it's not the ultimate way, they haven't fallen off Edited December 20, 2005 by Rolla__Boy Quote
Dyzza Posted December 20, 2005 Author Report Posted December 20, 2005 hmm... sounds like a plan. Rolla boy did you just get your studs from a local auto place ( repco or something )? What about your spacers? Autobarn do sell some kinds up here, all i have seen so far is one suited for a 5 stud-pattern. These rims should be on the car come january, cruise time! Dyzza Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) As I typed coupe, I thought of you jamie, but I am sick, and I was eating an ice block, and typing one handed, and I was like......meh...so yes, my HARDTOP has them. Yes I got my longer studs from repco, or autopro, can't remember which, but you wont like the price. I think from memory I couldn't get trade price where I was though, but they were $10 each stud, as opposed to $2 per standard length stud. And the spacers I got from the same shop, they had them on shelf, but I am sure you're shop can order them in. Especially if they have 5 stud ones there already Edited December 20, 2005 by Rolla__Boy Quote
Dyzza Posted December 20, 2005 Author Report Posted December 20, 2005 yikes, ten bucks a stud. ah well, it'll be worth it. When you put in the new studs, do you need to put in new front wheel bearings by any chance? when i had the wheels off the car the other day, i was poking around, and got as far as undoing the 4 nuts holding the 'stud plate' (what else would you call it?), then realised that to pull the plate off, the bearing would come with it. I guess it won't fall apart like when you pull the rear axles out... Thanks for the help but Dyzza Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 the bearings all just slip into place, it's easy Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Unless the bearings are stuffed, you don't need to replace them, just repack them. You clean all parts with petrol, and re-pack the bearings with wheel bearing grease. Buy new split pins though. And if you want, new wheels bearings are about $30 a side anyways. The studs are a PAIN IN THE ASS, to get in. Quote

Cheers dude I have a feeling the bearings are rooted. The rear ones were anyways. Yeah i need some split pins. Pain in the ass hey? ah well ... for interests sake, how much did you change the offset by ? 10mm? thats a guess at what i need to change on mine ... With the rear tyres, did you bother putting spacers on them? My rims should be sitting ~10mm further out then they currently are. Cheers, Dyzza Quote
Hokey Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Bad idea with longer studs. Ads too much stress IMO. what you need to get is the spacers my cousin has on his car they are wheel spacers but have a set of standard length studs on them so they bolt to stock wheel studs then put ur wheels on the new studs on the spacer. alot less stress on wheel studs so you wheel doesn't fall off :) Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 yeah, bolt on spacers. that's the only real safe way to do it. floating spacers are the sucks, they're illegal for a reason you'll need a press to do the rear wheel bearings Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Yeah the longer studs and spacers will make your wheels fall off, like mine have Quote
