JFC....

With painted cam covers, that takes the first indicator out (colour of writing), no TVIS plate & can't see any of the plate that goes between the block & intake manifold, both bigports (later versions) & smallports had 7-rib blocks.... Could even be a mix 'n match of manifold/block/head, unless it's history is known how do you know what it is?

:hmm:

Short of yanking the head off & measuring the valve size, I have nothing. :(

I agree with “Carbonboy” its too hard just looking at a picture to tell.

Are you asking what sensors do I have so I can get the correct wiring harness to suit the motor you have;

A) does it have an Air Flow Meter (a sensor just after the air cleaner)

B) does it have an MAP sensor (a sensor that has a vacuum hose to the intake manifold)

Or are you asking what head, the easiest way I could think of is to remove the inlet manifold and take a picture of the inlet port sizes.

The below pictures are taken from Bill Sherwoods 4AGE page

Looks to me like a bigport, at least as far as the intake plenum (which has been cut and shut though for RWD though) and cam covers are concerned. The small rectangular section on the plenum is where the TVIS label normally goes (smallports have a plain ribbed plenum with no markings), and the cam covers only have one level of bolt holes for the spark plug valley cover which also means bigport (smallport have two levels). As has been said though, cam covers can be swapped over easily and the plenum could be a red herring too because of the RWD conversion.
