B.L.Z.BUB Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) Probably but the price vs coolness factor is probably a bit much. EDIT: For your typical corolla owner that is. Edited November 23, 2011 by blzbub666 Quote

philbey Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Cool looking starlet. Welcome to the forums. I've never come across one of these in Aus and there isn't much discussion about them. I'll move this to the Rides thread and you can keep us updated on your car there. Quote
ke70dave Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 mmm that is cool. must go alright with the 7k. welcome to rollaclub! Quote
19914afc Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Love these, I know someone on here had one in a corolla but can't remember if it was OK to tell people about it, haha. Mods will know who I'm talking about. Quote
7k-ekp60 Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys i'm feeling the love haha.yeah she's pretty fun to drive aye you can go up a steep hill in 5th at like 40-50kph give it say half throttle and she just pulls to 110-120 without even trying but at 28yo i'm not a hoon anymore because i value my licence to much these days.I might have to try some motorkhana's/gymkhana's because she's not as rev happy as 4/5k's ect so on a event like that i can make use of the power.Hey here's a link to a guy on trademe that does cams for 4k and 5k's and he said he's never done a 7k one but to bring in a can and he will do me one......with high bottom end power and fu** all top end what should be some things i should ask this guy as this is the first carb engine i have attempted to work? Thanks again :) My link Edited November 24, 2011 by 7k-ekp60 Quote
Teddy Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 hahah thanks Jake =D Yeah, cat can come out of the bag now days. lol. I had a 7K in a Ke70, it was batty. Would eat, chew and spit out 4age's any day of the week lol Started off as a 7K Long motor. Spent on and off 6 months porting out the cylinder head, leaving the standard valve sizes and (will explain later) standard valve springs. Should be known that Twin 40's from an Alfa Romeo on a Redline manifold was used. Had ported another manifold out, but due to size restraints and being in a Ke70, thats what we had to use. If you have ever seen the size difference in ports between a standard 7K to a 3K-Bigport, Well the inlet ports on this head after its work were larger again & a work of art. haha. Cleaned the exhaust ports up and reshaped a few things, but didnt tinker too much in that end. A standard Aus 4k Cam was used and re-ground into something that.. whilst i can't remember the specs off the top of my head, had a serious amount of overlap & duration. hahah. Double timing row chain used. Standard valve springs were used as a.. bit of a safety barrier. And I'm glad we used them... Sourced a collection of 3F solid lifters, 4K-U Pushrods & Ke55 4kc rocker gear. The rocker pedestals were machined down 3mm & the adjusting mechs inverted. Just for effect, we used a 4k rocker cover haha. The cyl head was also shaved down a moderate amount. Never worked out how much, but if anything less than 98 octane was used, pinging was a problem to say the least hahah. A 5K elecy dizzy was added as well, with the vacuum advance hooked up to suit. I never really had the exhaust manifold / extractors setup properly other than some porting work on the flange end - a proper set of matched tuned length would have made even more power than the 4:1's. 2" exhaust all the way back, over diff. The bottom end was standard size, but rebuilt. The sump was baffled. Using a W to K bell housing, and a 2005? hilux gearbox, custom crossmember, Re-bent gearstick, RZN106 speedo cable & a one-off one piece tail shaft with removable uni's, T18 Rear diff using an open 3.9 ratio. Clutch was a mixture of 7K and W series. I can't remember which was which. Point is, it was one inbred son of a bitch. The slave Cyl had a custom machined slave pin for the extra reach. Its alot to take in, haha, but my god do i miss that engine. The standard valve springs were the only thing that kept that motor from self destructing. The get up and boogie from 2,000 was seriously impressive. When 7,200 came to visit, often may i add - not only was it screaming and wanting to continue past 4pm, the standard valve springs would kick and and let you know - btw - this WAS a truck motor. Ha. Ill build another one yet, learning the things that i did from this... and changing a few things. I'm sure i could squeeze a fair bit more out again. I never did throw that thing on the dyno. The thing would wind it self off the speedo without trying, the rest of the car was a let down for that motor. haha. And then you would pick 5th and if game enough, try to recycle the 6pm onwards timeslot :P Cheers :) Quote
irokin Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Standard valve springs were used as a.. bit of a safety barrier. And I'm glad we used them... And how! That motor wanted to rev to the moon and then some! Glorious to drive, 7K is highly recommended. Quote
7k-ekp60 Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) cheers mate what a legend i printed out that whole passage and will use it for future reference but with started my own business at present (car wreckers) that comes first so ill just chip away slowly at it.My three things i'm wanting to do first is headers with 2inch system and some carbs and cam. This is i'm sure a dumb question to some but as this is my first carb engine and only second engine i myself would work i'm unsure. Can i put a cam in like the one in my last link without carbs or will it run like kaka?will get headers first but since the cams so cheap i may get that before some yzfr1000's or something like stated from a alfa. Thanks again. Edited November 24, 2011 by 7k-ekp60 Quote
