Evan G Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 gday fellas. i have a problem with my idle atm (its been a problem from day one). i can change from 45 idle jets to 60's and i cannot get my idle less that 1500 rpm. first thing i checked was vac leaks. none present. with any type of air filter it runs MEGA rich. i realized this when my o2 gauge always showed rich. i removed the air filter and i could lean out with the pri's. i put the air cleaner back on and she showed rich. while fiddling with my carby i found that fuel was pooling up on the primary butterfly. its coming from the primary venturi. it kinda make sense why it was running rich with a air filter, air filter was causing a slight restriction causing the fuel to be sucked out of the venturi more. at idle i watch the o2 gauge and it leans out then randomly richens up and idle goes up to 1500. fuel bowl level is correct. idle jets are 40/45 I'm stumped. what else should i check to diagnose my problem? video of the problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAAIo1TR2CY Quote
GJM85 Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 had an idle problem all week end. I couldn't get the idle below 1200rpm with out it dieing in the arse. With the 4k carb I went from got a 49 idle to an 80. And the mains went from 108/153 to 153/162. Still wasn't running rich but fuel flows out of the auxillary venturi at idle as a mist. That drip you've got there tells me theres something wrong with the emulsion tubes/air correctors. Quote
Evan G Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) I'm running 195 air correction in the mains and 170 in the secs the emulsion tube has only one opening and thats on the primary side. sec side doesnt have one edit - i have blown compressed air thru the idle curcit and carby cleaned everything edit edit - The emulsion tube mixes air from the air corrector jet with fuel from the main jet, and controls the mixture from the discharge nozzle at all engine speeds that the main jet is working. Basically, the emulsion tube changes the diameter and location of small holes in it's body Edited November 14, 2011 by Evan G Quote
altezzaclub Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Float level being too high would make fuel flow out the jets without any suction demand. A hair at the needle & seat face may hold the needle open sometimes and not others, so it intermittently floods. Quote
Evan G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 i think i have may found my problem. brb ill upload some pics Quote
Evan G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 i went down to my local carby joint, i told him my problem and he told me i need to drill a 1mm hole in my butterfly cause i have no vac at idle? this make completly NO sense. a fella from work had a look at my carby after work and we found this these appear to be blocked off. on the spare 32/36 i have, they arent blocked off its the same as some one blocking these off on a stock carby the way he discribed it was. "when you have a full bottle of water and you start squeezing it upside down, it has to burp of the vac before it flows again." I'm going to drill the pri side bung out tomorrow, i hope i win Quote
Evan G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 the problem was from day one. I'm looking at the idle curcit to confirm Quote
Evan G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 according to this my emmulshion tubes have something to do with my idle curcit. http://www.opelgt.com/forums/opel-tech-articles/26512-understanding-idle-transition-operation.html ill swap that before drilling! Quote
Evan G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 shes fixed i went to swap the emmulsion tube, remove the top part of the carby. while I'm here ill start it and see if it drips. didnt drip..... drill out the bung as shown above. she idles at 800rpm now :yay: barp barp barp Quote
