a week later and the little 4K is still driving, hasn't stalled or hesitated.

however, from time to time, the fuel pump will get really noisy and knock away - quite audible, even over the sound of peak hour traffic.

I popped the hood when I got to work, and seems the fuel filter is still only getting half full. yet getting enough fuel to the carby to keep it running thankfully

it indicates that there must still be a restriction getting fuel from the fuel tank, even though I blew back the lines with the air compressor

Whats the next step ??

should I try blowing back the lines again? or maybe theres something mechanically wrong in the fuel tank ?

is there anything I can add to the fuel that will maybe break down or remove whatever has built up and causing the blockage/restriction ?

That is normal, the fuel goes in, through the filter, around the air bubble and out without any trouble.

I don't thnk so, if anything is blocking it the chances are it is rust scale.

Is there a return line in the system to take fuel that the carb doesn't need back to the tank?? ..and is the tank vented through the charcoal filter or has it been hacked so now it is sucking against a vacuum??

Did you clean the tank out?

I never ended up dropping the tank - I was hoping that blowing the lines back would be enough to start with

I needed to get the car back on the road asap, as its currently the only car I have running!

my mechanic mate reckons that the fuel filter should always be full (or as close to)

there was a return line from the old mechanical pump, but it kept leaking fuel with the new electric pump, so I just blocked off the return line with a bolt in the end. the tank is still vented through a charcoal filter

I know the electric fuel pump is mean to be noisy, but just don't want it to blow up and me get stranded on the side of the road in peak hour :glare:
