She's not listed as a project car (and I don't plan on doing any upgrades for quite a while), but I picked up my 1994 ST205 Celica GT-Four Group A Rallye last night. Her name is Sally, and she's number 77 of 77 brought to Australia, and one of only 2,500 released worldwide. This is the proper Group A homologation model.

She f@$kING moves!!! She doesn't like being eased off the line - give her over 4,000rpm (the further over, the better) and she gets up and boogies like you wouldn't believe.

I love her!

Good to see it went to a fellow enthusiast, knew exactly which car it was when you said #77, did you get it bone stock or with all the other good stuff he had on it originally?

Posted

Bone stock. :P

He'd sold all the good bits before he sold the car. It's still apparently got the lightweight flywheel and special clutch, but the thrust bearing sounds like it's gone (the previous owner said the clutch just made funny noises). It's also still got the 3" turbo back exhaust which sounds SWEET!!! And it's got the C-One wheels which is great, because the spare is one of the original 3-spoke Toyota alloys, and they look shit-house. Oh, it's also apparently still got the adjustable cam gears, but I haven't checked. And it's got lowered springs - can't remember what brand though.

I was disappointed when I found out about all the good bits that were on there but no longer were. This included a Blitz K1 380V turbo, Apexi PowerFC, rear mounted battery, and Apexi cold air intake. Was making 178kW at the wheels (which is how much power it makes stock at the engine). That would have been awesome, but the acceleration in first and second is plenty for me at the moment.

I may up the boost at a later date, but only in third, fourth and fifth. Apparently they run 9psi in first & second stock, and 13psi in third, fourth and fifth. The turbo is meant to be good for about 17psi, but it may be higher due it being a Group A. The engine is meant to be good for 19psi stock.

pfft. this gt4 is the sexc car :P.

Can't wait for you to take me for a drive or better yet let me drive it . I will let you drive the 82 :P

But yeah very nice car interested to see what it runs around hidden valley.

Any idea where it will be on the podium? At least you will beat the s2000 ;).

Of course it is. It looks SOOOOO much better than the boxy, shitty looking AE82.

You drive it? No f@$king way. Not ever.

I won't beat the S2000. It's almost guaranteed. He's going to be running semi-slicks at this race meet, so he should get under 1min 30seconds. I'll be happy with a 1:33. Anything under 1:35 will be great. The problem with the GT-Four is turbo lag, which I'm not used to, plus it's pretty big and heavy. I've got to get used to driving it, and putting the throttle on at just the right point to get boost on at the right point.

I'll be slow at first (possibly slower than the KE55), but will eventually get quicker.

that was harsh :P

so I guess you don't get to drive it when the gze goes in it? or when its turbo'd

and anyways sif i would wanna drive it the look on your face would petrify me lol just take me for a drive with me in passenger seat will suffice

Meh. I've got a 4A-GZE to drive. It'll be quicker than the AE82 with a stock 4A-GZE, and by the time you do any upgrades on the AE82 I should have the KE55 upgraded. :P

And a 4A-GTE no longer interests me. Adam likes N/A and superchargers. Turbos have their benefits, but instant throttle response is the best.

omg why are you so harsh after I compliment don't give me a reason to continue the old jokes lol.

Will be good to see how you go around hidden valley. i will laugh if something breaks :P

Well, Sunday at Hidden Valley went quite well. I was aiming for a 1:32-1:33. I got a best of 1:31.500 on lap three of race three. So I'm stoked!!! And Anthony in the S2000 with the new semi-slicks got better each race, and by the last race he'd got down to a 1:27.9! Most Improved Production cars are only doing about 1:25-1:26, so for a stock S2000 on good tyres to be going that quick is kick-arse!!! Hell, the lap record for an IP car around Hidden Valley is 1:19, held by an RX3 with a HEAVILY worked 13B (non-turbo). A fully worked S2000 would be awesome, so it'll be great to see how Anthony develops the car and how the times improve.

I'm stoked with the GT-Four's times, but it needs new brake pads as they were worn out before I went racing. The tyres on it were okay, but I definitely want to see how it'd do with semi-slicks. Anthony started out doing 1:32's in the S2000, and got it down to 1:30's before putting semi-slicks on. So with practice in the car, I would think I could follow a similar pattern in the GT-Four. The only issue is that the gearing was pretty much perfect for the way I was driving the car with it's current setup. The change of brake pads shouldn't affect this much as I did still have some rpm left coming into each corner, but changing to better tyres will cause issues. On Sunday I was nearly revving it out in third coming into two corners on the track before braking. My concern is that the better tyres will mean I can carry higher speeds, resulting in me either needing to hold third near the redline for ages, or to change up to fourth. However, I don't think the accleration will be quite good enough in fourth, so I will then want to increase power to improve acceleration to better take advantage of improved cornering and braking. It's a vicious circle. :P I'm hoping that with new brake pads and semi-slicks, a boost increase will be enough to improve my lap time and provide a well balanced car.

As for the vehicle's handling, in anticipation of understeer, I put higher tyre pressure in the rear than the front. This worked fairly well, and by the end of the day I had a couple of times been able to hit the brakes hard enough with a bit of turning so the back end kicked out slightly. This improved my attack angle and minimised the understeer effect somewhat. Even when the car did understeer, I don't really feel that it was too bad. It wouldn't hurt for it to be reduced, but it wouldn't take a lot to correct.

All up, I'm VERY pleased with my results, and will be interested in seeing how I can further improve. :P

Things have been quiet with the KE55, so here's some ST205 motorkhana pics from Sunday (16.9.07):

AWD FTW!!!

And anyone that says ST205 GT-Four's understeer can lick my left nut. Yes they understeer, but they also power oversteer when provoked. :D
