Jono Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 i'm guessing you read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_type_supercharger i had toyed with the idea of putting an Eaton M45 Supercharger on my BMW motor. I had it virtually brand new, when someone upgraded their mini cooper S with the "works" kit. Quote
love ke70 Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 BUT WHY DOES A RACECAR NEED TORQUE AT 2000RPM???? with a good turbo, you will not get lag coming out of corners as you will be uppity in the revs. Quote
ancullen Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 love ke70 - The AE71 will be road registered and not pure racecar. Otherwise I wouldn't be as worried. The AE71 will be built with the intention to use it as an occassional road car (not a daily) that I can drive to events such as lapsprints and motorkhanas where it will have enough performance to take in those events and perform pretty well. It will also be well presented enough to put in car shows every now and then. That's why I want strong power and torque throughout the rev range. JC807 - no, I hadn't read that. I went straight to the Eaton site (www.eatonperformance.com. AE70 - Umm, isn't the rear on the ST141 the same as the RT142 (aside from diff ratio)? Yes, it should be an F-series IRS LSD, so it'll add a fair bit of weight, but it'll be worth it. Quote
ancullen Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 Not sure about going IRS now. It'd be too cool for school, but a live axle F-series diff would be WAY easier to setup. I've been thinking about what to do with the KE55 and the AE71, and the plan is to start working on the AE71 body & suspension ASAP. In the meanwhile, I'll keep the KE55 with the 4A-GZE in it and have some fun with it, including lapsprinting, motorkhanas, and maybe some drifting (just cause I want to try it out and I've got the spare rims and tyres to do it with). Then when I have the money and the AE71 shell is getting close to completion, I'll take the 4A-GZE out and send it off for all the work I've got planned for it (which is quite extensive). The 4A-C will get dropped in the KE55 so I can keep using it - mainly for motorkhana use. I'll bodgy up an exhaust - possibly by cutting up the headers and giving it four pipes straight up in the air - no bonnet of course. That way it'll sound almost as loud as the 4A-GZE. :y: Should make for something fun to play in. Quote

I have looked over so many st141's and not a single one had a F series, St141's didnt have disc brakes at the rear i think well none that i have seen. Only rt142's have had disc brakes and some with the F series. Quote
ancullen Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 From further research I've done it appears you are correct. For some reason some *T14*'s came with the T-series diff, whilst some came with the F-series. Further more, some with the F-series diff had a live axle while some had IRS. The RT142 Avante apparently had disc brakes and IRS, but there is doubt about the LSD. However, as it's an F-series diff, an LSD centre isn't that hard to obtain as they were used as the front diff on many Hiluxs and LandCruisers. That also means that various types of LSD are available, including Torsen LSDs. Quote

I believe club event regulations state that the exhaust must have a working muffler and must clear the body of the car. Not only that the noise will be deafening at high rpm to the people around. ancullen Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 Depends what sort of events you're going in - the motorkhana series I'm in has nothing like that. :y: As for lapsprinting, you may be right, but it's not a big issue - I might just make another exit hole in the muffler and weld a bit of cut off exhaust pipe onto it - the volume will increase but not to a ridiculous level. Teddy Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Des, i have SEEN St141 coronas with diskbreak rear ends. Theres one at kellys atm. Solid axel, borg warner diff with diskbreak rear end. Solid Rear end - Drum & Disk, IRS Rear - Disk only. Quote
ancullen Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Thanks for the info Teddy. It's a Borg-Warner diff on it though? Do you know if it's the same size diff as the KE55/KE70 or is it a larger one? I had heard that some Corona's of that series came with a T-series, but had my doubts. I thought the Borg-Warner was far more likely. The IRS rear end is definitely an F-series though isn't it? Quote
ancullen Posted May 25, 2007 Author Report Posted May 25, 2007 Whilst working at Coles last night I served a guy I know through entering the Rejex Rally. He has his own suspension business, and has told me to give him a call on a weekday sometime to talk about doing up the suspension on my Corolla (not that he's ever seen it). So I'm going to contact him next week to discuss sorting out Lola's suspension, including lowering the rear and setting the front up properly. He should also be able to help me work out whether it's my brakes or suspension causing the front end to do some serious shaking. If it's the suspension, I'll get him to repair it so it doesn't do it anymore, if it's the brakes I'll hurry up and buy the parts to do the RX7 caliper conversion. :D Quote
ancullen Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 Took the black ZZE122R down to the track on Sunday and entered the Streetcar Shootout. This is the competition where you nominate a lap time and have to come as close to it as possible. You start each race with 50 points, and every 0.2 of a second you're over that time, you lose 1 point, every 0.1 of a second you are under that time, you lose 5 points. After qualifying/practice, I set my lap time at 1min 39sec. In the first race I got 29 points, 41 in the second, 0 in the third, and I don't know the results for the fourth race yet. However it was good enough to see me come third outright, even though my car was lapping slower than all of the six other cars on track. :sob: I did also change my nominated time before the third race (to 1min 39.1sec) and again before the fourth race (to 1min 39.5sec) as I was getting slower as the day went on. My best lap of the day was done in the second race I think, at a 1min 39.1. Some of you may notice that this is slower than my previous best in this car. The reason for this is that I was using a Dorian transmitter to time my laps this time, whereas all previous meets had been hand timed. So this timing is WAY more accurate. I'll be interested in seeing what my actual times in the yellow Corolla are, but will have to wait until August 26 to find out. :hmm: Quote
ancullen Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 I actually went and did some stuff with my Corollas on Sunday. Not much though. :bash: I've removed the three good doors off my blue spares car. My mother-in-law is getting the shits with the cars sitting around there, so I'm going to get rid of the red and blue spares cars ASAP. I've now changed three of the wheels on the blue car so it has inflated tyres and can be moved around easily. The red car is sitting on jack stands because I removed all the wheels and sold them, and have since removed the front struts to loan to someone. I will be removing the diff from the red car while it is in this state. I will also be taking as many big parts off each car as possible, not necessarily to keep, but to make them lighter to move. I may end up cutting the shells into smaller pieces to take to the tip - depends what's easiest for my father-in-law and I to do to move the shells. I also put some more charge into Lola's battery as it seemed to be getting a bit low (fuel pump was droning). In more interesting news, I did some measuring on the AE71's dash. Why? Well I wouldn't call this vehicle Project White Rider without a good reason. I was measuring up for the in-car pc monitor. I was inspired by an in-car pc done by a guy in the US in a VW Beetle, and have since found out a great deal more about such setups. I plan having a electric door where the fan controls are, and the moniter (probably an 8.4") slide out from behind it and up into the upright position. The monitor I'm looking at is a touchscreen (for a simple interface) LCD and only costs about $320 including postage. I'm hoping to set the system up to have control over aircon (car doesn't have it yet, but will), fan speed, audio/visual, and some lighting (NOT headlights etc, just interior LED's and the Knight Rider scanner light). The audio/visual is obviously the most simply to setup, as the system will just run something like Windows Media Player or similar - whatever has big buttons for the touchscreen. The fan/aircon and light controls are slightly more difficult, but should be doable. It's just a matter of finding the hardware to link the systems up, and then finding the software or finding someone who can write it. I'm thinking about mounting the computer itself above the glovebox, inside the dash. This will make it reasonably easy to access should I need to, whilst keeping it hidden. There should also be room for me to put in some insulation to protect it from the heat a little more. I do need to work out how I want the USB and other connections to be accessible. I like the idea of making the little panel that says 'Corolla' into a flip hatch and having the computer directly behind that with the connections facing outward. I'll see when the time comes though. For now I need to start work on preparing the shell, as there are some small rust spots I want to repair, and I'll be removing the side strips and smoothing and painting. I also want to get an AJPS bodykit for it, so the whole car will be painted. There's a lot of work ahead, and I'd love to have the car ready and registered by this time next year so I can enter it in the big annual car show we have up here. Quote
ancullen Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 BTW - check out my sweet dash - not only does it have a tacho (not pictured), it's uncracked and in beautiful condition. Ideally I'd like to get a spare for me to 'adjust'. Quote
Teddy Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 Lovin that update :bash: ! Makes 2 of us, going insane with Ke70 Dash's ! :y: ! Quote
