Nostalgia Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Nice, love the wheels :) 1. 4a? Did you do a conversion, or do you mean 4k? 2. 7afe, from 2000ish corolla? 1.8? Has that been done before? Sounds ambitious! Quote

swarf. Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 hey mate, car looks good and love the plans. unless you have a k - t bellhousing, you're going to need a K5/4 gearbox, not a T50 :) keep us updated! Quote

BenH_Ke70 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Report Posted November 4, 2011 Nice simple ride there Ben, Tidy her up and cruise it, I don't mind the colour it is now, I think I have seen this up around the coast a few weeks back yeh man simple is how i like it, if something goes wrong with it, i can actually see, hear smell what it is, plus have a half decent chance of fixing the problem. you may have seen me cruising around, I live near Gympie.. but I come down the coast to catch up with mates on weekends.. So are there many rolla club members around sunny coast? Love it , huge potential...You'll love a manual in there. I fang mine that hard and it loves it.Get the paint code and see what paint you can get for that rear quater. thanks bro, yeh i've got a 4 speed in a paddock basher at me ol mans place, but its in nsw and i am in qld haha, roadtrip... and yeh starting to think maybe keep the paint colour although it needs alot of touching up, someone has painted some sort of clear over which is all peeling off from the back doors back its like that... but i kinda like a ke70 in undercoat also :P we will see, my neighbour has a compressor and a spray gun and i have sandpaper discs and tin of primer/filler.... Ben-89 Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Looking good indeed, as you said simplicity is the key particularly when starting out :y: The colour is Midway Blue, but the two letter code will be stamped on the colour/trim plate which the auto paint shop will understand when you show them. K50's come up often enough, and yes a manual will transform the drivability of the car considerably! There arent many of these in a blue so a fresh coat would it good I think, and that interior looks quite clean too :) Edited November 4, 2011 by Ben-89 Quote

Ben-89 Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Looking at the rear right hand door in the last photo it has a nice shine to the paint, I'm guessing it has been previously polished and has progressively faded over time, or it has been blended from the rear 1/4 panel into the back door. With a good cut and polish the rest of the car would come up like that. Perhaps try and polish the car to see how good the paint is and assess the rusty areas and repair/paint those when its possible. Freshly cut and a new coat or two blended in certain area should come up alright. While primer may look good, as its an absorbant coating it will draw all the moisture and cause further rust. Quote
BenH_Ke70 Posted November 5, 2011 Author Report Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) UPDATE: front bumper adjustment I was staring lovingly at my lil beast.. just thinking F#@K that front bumper sticks out alot!! I really don't like it.. but I know it will be a while before i can afford some nice shiny chrome ones, what can i do?? well I proceeded to remove the said bumper and see what I could do with it.. I got it off all good and examined what I had to work with, the steel brackets got some re adjustment, now about 60mm shorter. I had to bend and cut the brackets a bit (a lot) in and out of vice anvel etc but eventually got some new bolt holes that lined up with original nuts welded on the bumper. I got both brackets shorter and bolted up, test fit on car... sits closer in but still not far enough.. I observed the other end of the bracket where it bolts in the engine bay.. yes i can cut that hole longer and move it closer.. so i did, now its hard up against the apron, but this still wasn't enough, I pulled the plastic off my bumper got my angle grinder and proceeded removing rased edge on the bumper... did the same to plastic with a jigsaw. thats how much i cut off and how it looks, i didnt have a pic of before but I'm sure its much more snug now  had a bit of mucking around with the ends of the bumper, had to cut them down and screw through into metal, bit dodgey but hey better than buying new ones for now  Only problem is now i might be blocking air flow to radiator, not sure but I remember hearing something about how bumpers are designed to direct the airflow... mights nead to cut and bend down the back edge a bit to direct airflow. I am yet to drive it like this so i'll make sure to keep an eye on temp gauge when i do. Edited November 5, 2011 by BenH_Ke70 Quote
