Hey everyone! This is my first post here. Glad I was able to find this site, as Corolla people can be hard to track down. Anyway, I am building an '80 Corolla SR-5 Coupe (US spec TE72) for road racing. The rules of my class state that I cannot change the rear differential housing, but that the internals of the diff are open and that I can run any gear ratio and LSD unit that will fit... without modifying the housing. In the US, the TE72 came only with the 6.38 8-bolt rear (so my research tells me). I know that TRD used to make an LSD for this rear, but they have been out of production for a long time now. Are there any other LSD's out there to fit my car? I saw someone mention the US spec Starlet, but Ive not been able to confirm that. What about toyotas in non-US markets? I don't mind having to get a diff imported if I need to. Please let me know if there is anything out there. Thanks again!!

i *THINK* the ae82 sprinters (corolla gt-s in the us) had them

starlet diffs are WAAAAYYYY too weak and there were never any lsd's imported

i have a 4.10 rear ratio one legger and well a whole te72 i'm parting out.....

Do you have to keep it as stock, or can you make a GT out of it?

European TE71 (coupe, sedan and liftback(that i assume yours is)) had same 6,38" rear with somekinda weird lsd looking open differential. Housing was with 2 or 4 dif gears and had viscous type washer plates to improve grip. Well.. works better than compleatly open dif, but is no way a lsd

But to get to the point...

TE71 GT had 6.7" rear and 2T-G engine. And if you can change it, your life just become a lot easier... :)

we never got that, te 72 was a sedan, 71 was a liftback, like the t-18

We never got the GT or TE72 either and our ALL 1600cc models were TE71. sedan, coupe and liftback :)

Toyota has a group 1 FIA homologation for TE71 GT, that shows what it has in it, or just take a peak at euro spec EPC  it inholds the GT too.

i'd have to check, but i think the LSD you are after is out of a ke70.

All the TE series here came out with a 6.7" diff.

the 6" diff came out in the Jap spec KE70, if it's what you want we may have one sitting in the garage for sale.

it's a TRD unit, but the LSD is f@$ken tight!!! it was in a rally car, it's got 5.1 TRD gears, had new bears just recently, but we upgraded to a AE86 sprinter rear end.

if you could give me a chassis(vin) number that would help as we have a toyota EPC to cross reference too.

Hmmm.... Is that 6 incher going to fit? I'm thinking the 5.1 ratio will be too high for my application. My region is known for having fast tracks that tend to favor cars with long legs. Anyway, I'm thinking it may just be better to petition my comp board to see if they will let me use the 6.7 10-bolt. Thanks for the help!
