hey I'm ben

car - ke70 84 4-k stock/standard sedan

everything on and in my KE is stock/ original parts being made in 84 that makes 98% of the parts 27 years old!

so I want to start slowly replacing those parts, and was putting this topic up for some different ideas/opions and such.

what ive done so far:

lowered king springs $350!!

full service- oil, plugs, lights, tyres, oil filter, fuel filter the lot!

carby got points put in, or whatever they do and cleaned it out, ( made it drive so much better said it was all blocked up in there )

new original interior, all orig. parts some soon to be most plastic in interior painted black, all tidy.

but yeah dribble dribble lol that's about all, and just some sound and tidied up boot.

any suggestions, wouldn't mind giving it a bit more power but don't know too much about it all, heard new weber carby and adapter, extractors and manifold will give me some more power, anyways just working on it bit by bit its my daily i drive it a fair bit.

but everyone comment and tell me dome ideas? suggestions? cheap easy mods,

cheers for reading 

Make sure its a 5-speed. If its a 4speed then that's one great mod that is easy to do.

You will need to do 5 things together to make the most of modifying the motor.

Carb: Weber down-draught, twin SUs or Weber DCOE side-draught are the most popular.

Cam: Get the cam & followers you have ground to a new profile.

Exhaust: Extractors and a larger diameter pipe with free-flow mufflers.

Head: Have it skimmed to raise the compression to suit the other mods.

Flywheel: lighten it & check the clutch while you have it off the road.

Budget $500-$800 for carb, depends which you use, $200 for cam & you have some change, $600 exhaust, $100-$300 head, depends on valve conditions and other work found, $100 for flywheel and a couple of hundred for tuning. There goes $2000+ and do it in your holidays as it will be ff the road for a couple of weeks. I spent $2200 here-

Getting away from the motor itself a couple of gauges (volt, oil pressure and vacuum) make for an easy way of seeing how the motor is running. A sports wheel gives a better feel on the steering.

Aftermarket nolathane bushes on the suspension isn't all that hard to do. But i wouldn't go overboard with the nolathane on the back, having a little bit of movement is a good thing.

Their all nice simple things that can be done after work / over the weekend that makes for a nicer driving experience.

And make sure those springs are still captive when the wheels come off the road.

captive??

and okay thanks for your help,

but what about the indicator and window wiper arms get in the way of the boss kit if I was to put another steering wheel on it ??

captive??

Basically when you jack the car up off the road and the suspension is at its full droop. Grab hold of the spring and see if you can move it off its perch. If you can do that its not captive and you'll have to find shorter shockies.

It'll depend on what boss kit and wheel you put on.

The correct one will be right - it'll be the correct distance from the stalks.

But then again if you have long arms and short legs - bit like the average commodore hoon, you'll have the seat pushed right up to the dash and the back rest of the seat close to laying flat on the back seat.
