cranke10 Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) Thought you guys may be interested in some pics my corolla and some details of whats been done to it since I purchased it last year. You will prob see it around melbourne, since I have owned it,its been my daily driver and I commute from the city to dandenong every day..... Picked it up in Melbourne as a very tidy original car,was pretty stoked when I found it for was for sale,I had been looking for a nice original ke10 for a while. I enjoyed the blue 5k powered ke20 I had but because it has been painted and had a retrimed interior it had lost alot of the character of the original car. I wanted something original this is how I purchased the car, very straight body(few small dents and sctraches) and a PERFECT interior, lovely! Edited May 6, 2013 by cranke10 Quote
cranke10 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) I love the look of whitewalls so I sussed out some 12" flappers for it This is how the car looks today Wasnt long before my bro convinced me to find a new home for the engine out of his rallycar (kp60 starlet in nz) It is a standard displacement 4k (1298cc or whatever) due to the car competing in the 1300cc rally class runs standard crank, rods, pistons although linished/balanced and arp bolts has a fairly mild cam( picked for wide torque for the dirt rather than peaky power...haha) pretty massively ported head runs 12:1 comp and used to live on avgas but now has been tuned on 98 and actually made more power...... used to run twin 48mm sidedraughts now runs efi hardware throttle bodies and a link ecu picked up 4rwkw or so but also a heap of torque going to the injection has been dynoed at 71rwkw @ 8200rpm (in a different car) I will be getting it dynoed as soon as a fit the correct headers to it and finish tuning it so after I got the motor sent to melb we wanted to check it over as it had done 2 full rally seasons and never been touched It was expected to need bearings at the least.... standard rods! standard bottom end, good for 8200rpm,hard on the limiter between corners!........ the was the most wear out of all the bearings...after 2 seasons of rallying could have put em back in but I put new ones in for piece of mind amazing how clean the engine was inside, full credit to mobil 1 full synthetic(all its ever had in it) Edited October 24, 2011 by cranke10 1 Quote
cranke10 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) over easter we decided to have a crack at throwing the new donk in,figured that would give us heaps of spare time..... 3 x 1am finshes later it still wasnt running haha pulled the old k motor out had to use the 4k flywheel because it was all balanced with the crank etc measured up the flywheels (checking the 4k flywheel would work with the old 1k clutchplate(the early box has the smaller input shaft) also had to check the mounting depth was correct for the old clutch cleaned up the bay,got rid of some unneeded wires sweet little alternator bracket to mount the lancer alt for more powers checking the alignment next headache was trying to fit this monstrosity without making holes in the car and also trying to hide it all!! Mounts were modified to upright the motor for intake clearance and in the hole! modify the radiator to suit the ke10 position mounted the pump under the rear of the car, luckily the tank had a threadd drain so I found an AN fitting to suit, drilled it out and inserted a short length of tube cut at an angle so the pickup ws just up of the bottom of the tank, stop crud getting sucked up when the tank is low...worked a treat drilled minimum number of holes in the car when mounting everything Edited October 24, 2011 by cranke10 Quote
cranke10 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) SLOW! FAST! SLOW! FAST! AND SEXY  put a dogleg in the shifter to suit the new uprightness of the gearbox next mission was getting the old 5k extractors to fitup with the 4k,I had stupidly forgot to send the handmade 4-2-1 that were made specifically for this motor........ Because it has the spacer plate to work with the massive ports and the weber manifold the flange was all wrong,AND when it did bolt up it fouled on the steering box and chassis etc etc,AND then it leaked after all that and needed to be filed for hours and hours Argh!! ready to start!( I have since tidied up that ugly heater pipe etc startup vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1qGHshgOPo https://picasaweb.google.com/101461365068343049652/1969Ke10CorollaBuild#5601536173667575186 Edited October 24, 2011 by cranke10 1 Quote
mhmills Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 I think I know who you purchased this off of. Very clean car. Quote
cranke10 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) not long after having it running the heater core sprung a couple leaks....not really suprising it didnt love the fancy high pressure cap on the alloy rad haha managed to fix it up with a bit of soldering, pressure tested to 15psi each time until i had fixed all the pin holes...... been sweet ever since.... tune was all over the place because the original fuel reg was misplaced so i had to run another(rb20 if interested) and they all vary slightly anyway purchased the innovate wideband so I could start fine tuning it bit of advice if you are installing one of these...make sure the weld on the bung is perfect! like properly perfect!! haha it will save you a lot of swearing and head scratching when, after calibrating it 10 times it still reads full lean while you can see black smoke pouring out the back!! te27 Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Yes that's my old car, I know it went to a good home. Enjoy mate , love the new engine setup. I couldn't bring myself to modify it. My 25 should be on the road soon . Might have to catch up one day this summer Quote

cranke10 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the kind words... yea I'm really happy with the car after purchasing it from te27...i was feeling the same about modifying it but I knew putting this engine in wasnt going to mean doing many,if any,non reversible mods to the car We spent considerable time working out the best way to do the swap so the car can be made original if I ever desire.I have kept everything from the car in storage.I think only one or two smalls holes were made to complete the entire conversion....thats why I'm stuck with the ke10 4 spd for now!....this engine longs for a close ratio 5 spd haha. Plans at this stage are to fit the proper extractors when they arrive, put some new pugs in it and get it dyno tuned properly, hopefully it makes similar power to what it had last time  and I am in need of some rollaclub stickers if its deemed worthy  and yes it is completly untouched everywhere else, including the suspension and brakes :laff: and I think it will remain that way,I have no plans to put it on the track so they cope fine for now :lolcry: I may lower the front end to match the rear at some point Definatly keen to get out and about over summer,I have missed the last couple events as I was on holiday Cheers,Ryan Edited October 25, 2011 by cranke10 Quote
JJT036 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Very Very Nice Ryan! Love the work put into this. :y: Josh  Quote
