James Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 I went to the super cheep man and the only desent light he had was to much $94. I will try to find a mate who has one for me to borrow. I have just had a play with the timeing and found that if I advanced it more it picked up revs and if I retarded it, it lost revs, I now assume why I could never get the idle below 1500 rpm with the idle settings on the carby was because of the timming was too far advanced, I now have it retarded to 1000 rpm... I take it for a drive now and report when I get back I will take notice if timing does anything to the running on tell me more about why the revs change with timing Quote
James Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 why did I listen to you about the timing :( Tinkabell has lost her tinkle :( Hey does any one have a tinkle sound track to put the tinkle back in my car. now I am going to have to change her name :) maybe snap cracle pop :P yes that works with all the back firing she does. I am thinking about riping the head off and taking a look, see if I can find the reason for the running on this time it only lasted about 5 seconds Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Are you actually reading what people are typing to you?? The tinkling sound you are hearing is pinging...and it is VERY bad, it's a good thing it is gone. If the running on time has decreased, then you are on the right track. There are a number of options you have before you "rip the head off" just to have a look, since by the sounds of it, you wont know what you are seeing anyway. Take the car to a mechanic and get him to look at it for you. Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 get a multimeter and set your timing static. i don't know what sort of distributor you have, but set the points gap and dwell angle if you can as well i agree with rollaboy, if this is all too hard or you don't have the tools, take it to someone who does have them i have seen too many people pull the heads off engines which had nothing wrong with them. and doing the camshaft and timing belt on a 4ac isn't something you can ordinarily just "bung on and drive" you're lucky your car is even running dude. fix it properly Quote
James Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 I believe there are no points, could this be because it has an electonic ignition, the backfiring only occures when I use the enging to slow me down a hill, not under power I hope you did not tak me serouly when I said "why did I listen to you about the timing :) Tinkabell has lost her tinkle  " now I can drive it with out hearing the tinkle. I think that pinging puts strain on the engine, am I correct? Quote
James Posted December 16, 2005 Author Report Posted December 16, 2005 I found a timing light Results. timing before I started was at least 20 or more before TDC timing I set by ear was about 3 before TDC timing I set with timing light today 9 before TDC now she is running sweet, enough power and no pinging. thanks guys Quote
GZE82 Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 sounds like plugs that noise under load, get a timing light onto it and put correct plugs into it, and u should see the noise go Quote
James Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 sounds like plugs that noise under load, get a timing light onto it and put correct plugs into it, and u should see the noise go my last post said that the pinging has cesed because I used a friends timing light and set the timing to 9 degrese Quote
love ke70 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 hmm, bit old to drag up but anywho... has the engine now stopped desieling on? and with the backfiring under engine braking, is it a proper BANG or just sort of little put put pop put. if its the second one thats quite common, esp if the muffler is doing alot Quote
