Trent-KE30 Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Howdy, Now i apparently need new struts for the front of my car, (suspension place said they were f@$ked), and they feel it its all spongy and not that great to drive, Also i will be getting the leafs reset in the back very soon, so i was wondering what are some good lowered springs for the front i can use?, Kings?, I'am not a huge fan of cutting my springs or anything dodgy like that, money is no problem :) so hit me with some suggestions, Also what places stock struts etc?, I'am in Tamworth and there is a lack of suspension shops. thanks guys, Trent Quote
kangaroosa Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 There are many shops that stock the parts your after. Alot of people on here swear by "Pedders". They stock a variety of strut inserts and shockers. They also have lowered springs for your car. Monroe also stock the parts, but are not very popular among most members. There are heaps of other budget brands like "Gabrielle" (Supercheap Auto Special). I have a set of "Kings" and "Lovells" Lowered springs sitting next to me for my KE30. Just waiting to the christmas break to do my girlock brake upgrade at the same time and see which spring will sit at the right height for me. I also have a set of "Boge" Strut inserts here that i plan to try out. Then their are "Koni's". $$$$ If its for a road car, and you want value for money - Most people would suggest a set of Pedders lowered springs (or Custom Springs), matched up with some Pedders Shocks. I think i have Pedders Comfort Gas in mine at the moment. My KE30 has an extra leaf in the rear and Pedders Gas Shockers. Its very stiff, but I like it that way. Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted December 7, 2005 Author Report Posted December 7, 2005 (edited) Ah thanks Kangas, Do you have the part number for the Pedders lows for the KE30? Nevermind just found them :) Edited December 7, 2005 by Trent-KE30 Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 Or if you want to spend 1 billion dollars....get Bilstein etc hehe The girlock brake upgrade takes about an hour Quote
st.nick Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 Some 40 or 50 mm Bilstein Coilovers would be nice!! It'll ride like a concrete floor... But f@$k it'll handle!! About $2000 a pair!! Quote
st.nick Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 On another note... Fitting RA40 struts and brakes to a KE3x. Why do you have to cut the spring perch off?? And will the bigger Celica brakes work ok with the rest of the Corolla braking system?? (master cylinder etc) And will they be much stiffer?? Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted December 29, 2005 Author Report Posted December 29, 2005 Hey St.nick a guy called BradW did it to his KE30 I'm pretty sure he is on these forums if not he is definately on ToyMods, Cheers, Trent Quote
Super Jamie Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 because the springs sit too high. if you put superlow springs in corona/celica struts, it sits stock height in a corolla no, change to a pajero master cylinder like demuire has Quote
boofis Posted January 1, 2006 Report Posted January 1, 2006 so are the RA40 struts/brake upgrade the new corona rt brake upgrade? I hope it's not because I'm about to go ahead with the corona brake upgrade. Quote
ben Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I have pedders lowered sports ryder springs and gas shocks in my KE30 at the moment and I can't wait to change them! The shocks wore out within about 18 months and the springs are variable rate which makes the car far to bouncy for my liking. I have fitted standard height King springs and monroe GT gas to my wifes AE82 and they shit all over the pedders stuff. King springs or whiteline control springs would be the way to go. Monroe GT gas were far superior to the pedders shocks but I intend on fitting Koni shcoks when i finally rip the pedders out this year. Check all your suspension bushes as well. The pedders swaybar that i have in my KE 30 is about the only good thing i have got from pedders. Pedders do make new strut top mounts for the KE30 but if you can afford them Noltec make an adjustable strut top mount for KE30s. Lovells will make brand new leaf springs for the rear for about $240.00 ea plus extra for the bushes. Just thought I'd let you know about my experience with Pedders. Cheers Quote
boofis Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 "Its very stiff, but I like it that way." Hahahaha I'm sorry....:rocknroll: lol. But on topic, is there any advantage to having coil overs if you get a standard coil spring made to the same rate? Quote
Hokey Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 only advantage of coil overs is there adjustability. St nick: you are probably better off you rt132 corona struts as the RA40 brakes are not much of an increase over standard. search around on the corona ones and you will see that they are alot better way to go. Cheers, Calvin Quote
Stiks666 Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Quote from pedders was $166 pair front king springs. About 6 months ago. Never got the money, other stuff came up. I had previously cut the standards though, rides alright, light cars don't bounce as much as heavier ones do. Only took about an inch of settled ride height out of the front, didn't want it to low compared to the back. Quote
ae92 sedan Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 hey guys this is my first post here as i have just sold my ae92 sedan and just bought a ke30 1978 4 door sedan! it handles and goes like nothing like the ex car did but i have a question about the suspension in it... the people before me didn't care about the car basically they cut the springs and havn't maintained the engine in it, it has a 5k 5 speed in her with a 2" exhaust and a dumper but anyway back to the suspension. when you go hard around a corner, when you are just exiting the corner the whole car flings to the opposite side, very hard to control if you are going fast enough or not paying attention. not sure if its the tyres that are on the car, springs or what.. anyone have any ideas?? cheers Nick Quote
