phil86 Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 As the title states I am wondering if there is a Toyota equivalent to the Nissan l series 6 cylinder engines? In particular the L28. Quote
irokin Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 M or F series would be the closest. Any reason why you want to know though? Quote
7shades Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Maybe he has a really heavy boat, and an R series just isn't enough to anchor it Quote
phil86 Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Lol very funny @7shades, just wanted to look into it. I like that its a bit more period correct. Thanks for your help irokin. Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 The 4AC an SOHC like the L16, & although the L isn't even crossflow the SSS had 15bhp more. The 5M from the Cressida is the nearest to an L28, SOHC 2valve 2.8L on carbs. Quote
phil86 Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Cool, I have had a look around, thanks for the help Quote
philbey Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 M series is similar in that its an ohc 6 banger but in terms of reliability and range of aftermarket upgrades that'd be where similarities stop. Quote
phil86 Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 So I take by everyone's comments its a pretty pointless swap into a ke rolla? Just thought there may be a little bit of potential and at least it is period correct. Quote
philbey Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Better off just putting in a worked L series. 300hp potential AND still period correct.... Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Yikes, m series. Really toyota had nothing to offer in comparison. Quote
MrInKryption Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Didn't the old Supras have the 7M engine? Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted September 23, 2011 Report Posted September 23, 2011 Didn't the old Supras have the 7M engine? The engines in the MA61/MA70 Supras (5MGE 2.8L, 7MGE 3.0L) are way better than the L-series, both were DOHC and crossflow (the L-series was neither), and the 7MGE was 24-valve as well. If you wanted to replicate the design and figures of an L28 in a Toyota engine you'd have to drop down to the 5M-E (which we unfortunately got in the Australian MA61 instead of the 5MGE, but at least it was still crossflow), at which point you might as well not bother. 1 Quote
