orangeLJ Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 but wouldnt the answer be to run correctly fitting wheels then??? as for flared guards... well... this is my other torana... Quote
Jono.C Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 The wheels themselves do fit well, That's the thing.. It's the fat tire that doesn't fit.. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) There's no hard-and-fast rule for what size tyre fits (apart from a good 1-2" range) and looks good on a wheel, it depends a lot on the car. Take the beloved-by-many MA61 Supra wheel, 14X7 +8 so it has a decent bit of dish; factory fitment for the MA61 is a 225/60 tyre, and this style looks good under the wide haunches and flared guards of the Supra. Put the same wheels on a KE55 Corolla though, and the tyres look positively balloon-ish - 195 is a much better fitment, with sidewall height to suit (I ran 196/65 for the rally-car look, but that can still be a bit high for some people, and puts the speedo out too) I for one am not a big fan of the whole stretched-tyre scene, especially when taken to the extreme. A little bit here and there, especially if it is on a smaller car to help tuck the tyre under the guard, can be ok though. What I really hate is stretched tyres fitted to small (like 14") wide wheels on cars like MA61s which have flares especially to take fat tyres (the stretch ends up almost being a continuation of the flare), it makes the car look like it is rolling around on castors rather than actual wheels and tyres I've also ran 205 tyres on both a 6.5" (which would be way oversized to some people) and 7" wheel (45/16 for the 6.5", 20/17 for the 7"), with, and to be honest you can't really tell the difference in width of the wheel just by looking at the sidewall, even on such a low profile. orangeLJ Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) this is a better view of the racecar (with the non-track wheel on) and standard vs flared But we have "bogan toranas with balloon tyres" lol Edited September 25, 2012 by orangeLJ Quote
Jono.C Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 You're comparing totally different cars though.. Torana's look ok with wide tyres, But you wouldn't get that size tyre under a ke70 without work.. You wouldn't get that size tyre under my ke10, you'd struggle to get a 195 under it with ANY offset.. Therefore.. Skinnier tyre, better fit, looks better, rides better, doesn't scrub, doesn't muff my guards, po-po haven't complained about any of my cars so.. Quote
Trev Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 "Stretched tyres, making drifters tyres look bigger than 165's since 2009" Quote
Willis Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 You and your "drifters" Trev... A little bit of a stretch doesn't bother me but when I see people putting 185's on 10" wheels, it makes me feel a little queasy. Saw an S13 with 9.5" wheels with some ridiculous stretch on it the other day, untouched guards, it looked horrid. I wanted to go 8.5"s on my car for a little while but now it just seems kinda retarded. I think 7.5" is the biggest I would go but my Chevoits are 14x7 -5 and with 185/60's up front and 195/60's at the rear and they seem just about perfect. Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Chevoit... yuck Not sure about which one i'm thinking about though. Quote
