Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Hey guy's i've just joined and i was hoping I could get just a bit of info on a KE70 project car me and my dad are thinking of starting. If this isn't in the right place could someone point me in the right direction. If so sorry in advance. So we have basically been looking at doing a 4age KE70 project that we can use as a daily driver and then have some fun in on the side, so basically I wanted to know how much we would be looking at money and time wise doing a 4age conversion, with some new coilovers, springs etc and all the other little stuff needed. Dad has some rather ok knowledge of engine swap and the workings of a car. A ruff estimate or sum of $$$ and time would be great. If this isn't the right project for us a hint in the right direction in that department would be great. Cheers :) Quote
Spencer[RL] Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 (edited) You would be better off to starting with with a Ae71 rather than a ke70. I personally havent done a 4age conversion, but everyone seems to say don't expect much change from 5k - 5 grand - 5 G's - 5 gorillaz. This is a rough estimate. Can vary depending on sourcing cheap parts, doing your own fabrication , etc Edited September 8, 2011 by Spencer Quote
mrduke Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 yeah,go for a manual ae71.that way you will have g/box,x members, tailshaft, radiator etc. all you would really need to do is maybe get 4age front cut and start with that. you will need rwd inlet manifold or modify fwd one. get extractors and exhaust and mount up fuel pump. just did it all on my ke70 and it cost me about $4000 to do conversion. Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Ok thanks for the info guys. Spencer, when you said that you don't get much change is that performance wise or not? Cause I will be driving this on my P's. When I have my full license ill probably invest in a 4agte or ze and turn it into a drift/track car. With the 4-5k price tag would that include or exclude the engine and suspension parts etc? Would it be more worth while finding one with a conversion done already? Just trying to way up my options. Jono.C Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 I think he means for $5000 you wont get too much money back. They go rather well for what they are Quote
Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Start here Cheers mate, i've already got that favourited :) Any idea where I could buy or start to look for a 4age engine in australia or internationally? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Have you considered buying a half finished project cheap? Plenty of those floating around. Quote
Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Have you considered buying a half finished project cheap? Plenty of those floating around. That might be a good idea, ill just have to wait for the right one to pop up I guess. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 It'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than sourcing all the parts individually but you run the risk of having to fix other peoples dodgy work. Quote
Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 It depends how cheap I can get the parts I guess. It will all depend on how much we've got to spend. Thanks for your help, put everything in perspective. Quote
Sloth Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Some of the parts for the conversion (xmembers, pedalboxes etc) are starting to get really hard to find and really expensive, everyone seems to be doing 4A conversions at the moment (I seriously think I have seen new person doing one every 2-3 weeks on rolla club). I'd definitely go with the option of a half finished project, you will save some money and can get a lot of the hard work done (saving lots of time). Quote

I might try getting an AE71 there are alot around where I live so hopefully I will find one. A quick question though, do AE86 coilovers bolt straight in or not, i've seen alot of people asking this but I want to lower it and give it beter cornering the proper way. I know I'm a newbie but you have to learn some way :) Quote
Macca xE7x Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 How much do you recon a set of coilovers would go for? Quote
