Hey all

I have recently bought myself a lil' old KE70, It's a little rough around the edges but it's only a project car that I want to play around with for some sliding. Anyway I am new to the whole 'project car' phase and really should be doing a bit more research than what I am currently doing, I am a bit of a noob but i'd like to think I know my way around a car, I have got the cosmetic side of things under control but what my real problem is, is trying to choose the right engine for the job. I didn't really want to get a 4AGE because everyone has one and I want mine to stand out a lil', But seeing how I am trying to keep as much cash in my pocket as I can I have no choice, I've researched them and was mind blown with the amount of options and I honeslty can not be f@$ked reading them all and choosing which one would suit me best and so I might put the word out there and get some helpful hints from people who might have the same experience.....I'm on a budget but I can raise my limit, So I want a nice clean feeling/looking slider, So what 4AGE would suit me the best and will I have to replace anything like gearbox/diff anything like that?......Cheers :)

easiest way to do it, is to find an ae71 with a 4ac, then put the 4age in from an ae82. easy drifter. then you can go into the engine mods etc.

The only problem with that is then I have to find one that has a descent working engine (Big f@$k around) :(

Well, if you're admittedly too lazy to do the research and fck around, I can't see you completing the project!

Fit a cam, exhaust, & carbs to the 4K. If it needs bearings and a strip then bore it to 80mm & fit flat 5K pistons.

When you're bored, fit dished 5K pistons & turbo it.

While you run that around look for a 7K, which is still a reasonably straight-forward swap.

With a 7K fitted you have everything you need.

The people with the experience have already voiced their oppinions many times, but you can't be bothred reading them?

YOU need to make the decision based on your research, your abilities, your knowledge and your budget.

i spent months and months just browsing the internet, before i even bought my ke70. Scouring any build thread i could for information, its the only way to do it i think.

also,

EFI > Carby.

There is a good reason everyone does 4age into ke70. Its works, and it works awesome.

there are really only 2 different types of 4age, the 16V and the 20V (variations of each, but these are the two main classes).

16V is much easier and cheaper to make RWD, 20V is easy (well i think it is) as well, but will cost you substantially more.

to do a 16V conversion correctly the first time, budget about $3000, for a 20V, budget about $4000-5000

That's just to buy the engines and rebuld them! The conversion will double the cost.. :laff:

Seriously, unless you do all the work yourself and can modify/fabricate parts in an engineering shop, $5k won't go anywhere.

I've been researching everything, Engines especially, I have also been checking out hundreds of posts on forums, But as I am new to this I have taken everything into consideration, I am still learning day by day, And I DO plan to finish this! :)

I'm not that worried about the conversion because it will probably only cost me a carton of beer, But I am trying to find the right parts to suit and making sure they'll fit!.....And as for modifications/fabricating, I don't plan on any of that yet unless it is absolutly nessesary, cause as I said I only want a little slider shit and gigs, I'll start thinking about mods when the time comes and I want to upgrade etc etc. haha

Well, pick a motor-

Have you set your mind on the bling side of it to want a screaming 1600cc that does 8500rpm, or would a Holden V6 do the job?

I'd say the 1UZ V8 would make the laziest slider, its been done and all the tech details are there, but you won't get it road registered I think. If not then one of the turbo'd Nissan motors would be most common conversion. The Holden V6 would make a great road car for lazy cruising torque and they are as cheap as chips.

Another factor would be the age of the motor, as a lot of old motors would need a full rebuild before you fitted them

Otherwise you start converting FWD motors into RWD.

Nothing is set in stone yet, But I have been checking out a 2JZ, They're relitavly cheap and have have plenty of grunt when you give em' a kick in the guts, The power to weight ratio would be almost deadly I would think, But the question is, is what mods would I have to do to the engine bay to make it fit? :/
