Ke70 Buh Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Iill soon be getting a 7k motor an I'm wondering if i can get some pointers on everything i need for the conversion. like the wiring, fuel pump, bell housing and sort of cross member an all that. much appreciated Andy Quote
Big Daddy Keynes Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 you need to modify the sump and use the van engine mounts but tbqh i'd just chuck the 4k manifolds and dizzy on it as far as wiring goes. the bellhousing is the same as a 4k afaik, but if you are running a standard gearbox and diff you will snap them, i'd source the gearbox bellhousing from a manual 7k van and use the gearbox and crossmember off an rt142 corona or xa6x celica. if you really wanna go efi, keep the loom and shit off the van and use a lift pump and swirl pot with a vl turbo fuel pump. i've been researching the swap for my own ksev so if you wanna pm me for advice go ahead Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) snap the standard gearbox ?? i know someone that has had a k50 in his car with 7k for over 5 years now and hasnt snapped the box yet , but in saying that it all depends how u drive your car hey Edited August 30, 2011 by pmp16 Quote
Ke70 Buh Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 thanks thats heaps good. i think I'm gunna put the 7k in with the 4k gearbox for now an i can get a 7k gearbox when i wanna start putting more power into it. an yea I'm not too sure how long the diff is gunna last cos i did the manual conversion so its still got the piece of crap 3 speed auto diff in it. so probably looking to get a big unbreakable diff aswell. the other thing i wanna ask is about the sump. i know its gotta be modified but how exactly? cos i don't wanna chop the crossmember to make the sump fit in Quote
Big Daddy Keynes Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 you gotta completely reshape the sump iirc, the vans have a more upright engine and you can't use the 4k sump because the block is wider. also i know someone who has snapped a k40 with reasonably sedate driving and a mild as f@$k 4k. Quote
Ke70 Buh Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 yea i knew the 4k sump was too small. an reshape the sump? like shave sections off or? i red that they gotta be spun 180 degrees aswell? Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Snapped it with standard 4k And the guy never snapped second or drove it hard ?? In saying that or the previous owner ?? I have to cut my sump to fit ke10 hopefully will be done soon too .. But for rough example from the front at bottom of sump gotta measure like 100mm across then cut upward bout 70mm and cut it across toward back engine so end result it takes the curved back section out of sump and makes it more of a right angle . hope that aint too confusing lol hard to explain Quote
kickn5k Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 snap the standard gearbox ?? i know someone that has had a k50 in his car with 7k for over 5 years now and hasnt snapped the box yet , but in saying that it all depends how u drive your car hey Just gotta be really really soft on shifts and NO burnouts!!! I didn't break my k50 with my 100rwkw and stupid amounts of torque 5kze. In saying that it might be a bit noisy but the blower whine may have also been playing funny buggers with my ears.lol. Stu. Guest pmp16 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 100rwkw with a k50 wow that just ends the discussion enough said .. I can't wait to see ur next build mate it inspires me to make me wagon go good lol Quote
Ke70 Buh Posted August 31, 2011 Author Report Posted August 31, 2011 yea i kinda understand about makeing the angle on it now. but do u have to weld up a section? Quote
Sloth Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 I had a K50 on my worked 7k in my k355 (though it only made 56rwkw) and never snapped anything. I believe mines got a 3k sump. Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 I thought 3 and 4k sump don't fit ?? Quote
Ke70 Buh Posted September 4, 2011 Author Report Posted September 4, 2011 so if i get myself a 3k sump then it should clear the cross member? cos i know the 4k sump doesnt fit. and in regards to the gear box an diff snapping, I'm keeping the old cheese cutters on the back just to make sure. brake traction, not gears!! Quote
Guest pmp16 Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Well if a 3k sump fits on 4k In size but bolts don't line up how does a 3k sump fit on a 7k but the 4k doesn't ???? thinking hmmm thinking still don't know that one ?? Edited September 4, 2011 by pmp16 Quote
78_7kRolla Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Any other K motor sump will not bolt up to a 7k motor. The block is marginally wider and higher. You will be able to use your existing mounts and will need to 'scallop' the sump to clear the crossmember. Quote
