snot35 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Hello kind patrons of Rollaclub :) Does anyone around the Blackwood-ish area have a rattle gun that I could borrow or make use of? I need to get some inserts out of some struts and they're spinning. I'm hoping to find someone close-ish. Quite willing to bring struts to you if you're not happy to let tools out (which I totally understand)! I want to clean up the struts and might need to visit again to do the nuts up afterwards? Cheers all! Mike Quote
abbott Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 hey mate. what's your address pm if you don't wanna be public. I can bring mine around one arvo probably. you got a compressor and spare air fittings mine might not fit on yours. Quote
SLO-030 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I got an electric one (240v) here if needed? Quote
abbott Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 that's probably a way better idea ^^^^ I only got a little 3/8 electric one not sure how it'd go for what you need. Quote
Tally Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 (edited) the way I did it was use some thick cloth and a pair of multi grips, left no mark on the shock at all... Edited August 28, 2011 by Tally Quote
snot35 Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 You guys are awesome! Actually, that raises a good point. I don't actually care about the shocks coming out, so it doesn't matter if bugger the shafts. Do you need a rattle gun to tighten them sufficiently when you put them back in? Quote
SLO-030 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 (edited) I usually rattle gun the shocker nut when I'm putting struts together, one of many nuts/bolts you don't want coming undone. Edited August 28, 2011 by SLO-030 Quote
Tally Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 (edited) actually I think you shouldn't use a rattle gun, rattle gun should only be used on wheel nuts in my opinion... everything else, torque wrench and the normal socket rachet wrench Edited August 28, 2011 by Tally Quote
SLO-030 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 I would never use a rattle gun on wheels, especially alloy wheels. Anyways, Mike, if you still need one, Just shoot me a PM Quote
snot35 Posted August 31, 2011 Author Report Posted August 31, 2011 Cheers buddy! I've got hold of some vice grips, so I'll give them a shot. Turns out my brother has one so I might be able to commandeer that. I never suspected a cabby would need a rattle gun, but he's got one :) If it doesn't work out I'll get in touch. Quote
snot35 Posted September 3, 2011 Author Report Posted September 3, 2011 Vice grips were crap, but I worked something else out. One strut is apart, other soon unless someone can urgently lend me some spare time :) Thanks folks! Quote
